My brother purchased a meal from this establishment and his order wait time was extended past an hour because someone stole his food. From what I gathered, as a bystander, there was a lot of pick up traffic and the order was picked up by someone off of the counter. Regardless, being a business that doesn’t provide refunds and telling your customer that you’re “remaking the food for him as a courtesy” really doesn’t bode well in terms of customer satisfaction. I expected the remedy of the situation to be a remade order or refund, quickly, but instead had to hear presumptions about who the staff thinks took the food. The fact of the matter is that my brother, purchased a meal and didn’t receive it for quite some time and was forced to absorb the logistical fallout from poorly executed conflict resolution.

This was my first time coming here. It was recommended to me. The smoked Gouda grits were good. However, I was surprised that the meal I purchased (catfish and grits) only came with one thin filet. For the price and portion (compared to other restaurants I’ve eaten at with a similar entree), I wouldn’t get it again. If it came with two pieces of fish, I would’ve given it four stars.

I ordered the chicken and grits and everything was fantastic. The chicken was tender and delicious white meat. It was lightly coated and had a delicate crunch.

The grits. Oh lord have mercy they were creamy and perfectly cooked. I had amazing creamy grits in Hilton Head SC and 4 Hens tops those.

The creole cream sauce was amazing too. I was worried it would be too spicy because I’m weak I admit but this…..this was amazing in every single way.

I have a new favorite food.

Also I was unsure what I wanted so I asked the employee a few questions about a few different dishes and after she answered my questions I was unsure which one I wanted so I asked her what she thought and she suggested the chicken and grits and I’m so glad I took her suggestion. She was so patient and helpful and I appreciate her being so patient with my questions.

Fish and fries are burnt. Bun is cold, hard and stale. Terrible taste and overpriced. $21

Everything was good. A little pricey for a food court style meal but it was worth it. I didn’t like the fries were lukewarm and the sauce on the fries were cold. I recommended it be a little hotter. The cook said “ I just make the food, leave a review “….. so here’s my review

This man was very rude. He didn’t want to work and let the lady do everything while the line grew. Instead of helping he sat in the back then came out gave his friends food then went back to doing nothing. I love this place usually, my go to, but it didn’t feel right having the lady do everything while he sat in the back. Happened on 10/26/25

Went there yesterday 6/29 and the service was pretty cool. Nice older lady taking orders although it seemed as if she needed a little more training on the register, she was nice nonetheless. Greeted us, smiled, read our order back to us, she even gave a compliment or two.

Now lets get into the food we ordered 2 of the catfish platters it was SWAI not catfish and that is just wrong to charge the price of catfish for super cheap thin none flaky swai! We also ordered the 4 wing chicken platter and the chicken was super light skin and full of feathers! Now if it didn’t have all the feathers it had and was cooked a smidge longer it would’ve been good! All means came with fries that were also undercooked not cold but rather limp! And only about 3 fries had seasoning!

We also ordered the gumbo and the lima beans were extremely burnt on one side (I hate I didn’t get a pic of them! And the gumbo didn’t come with rice and it was $27 which to me for the price point it tasted more like a soup so it was rather disappointing! Then the absolute WORSE THING OF ALL was the gumbo had MULTIPLE pieces of hair in I was so upset that $27 went down the drain! And no I did not mention it to the owners/workers although I should’ve!

We also had 2 strawberry sweet teas ABSOLUTE GARBAGE! Although my daughter liked hers but U switched mine out for lemonade which they were cool about so that was nice..my husband had strawberry lemonade and he liked it… they did not ofer refills on those $7 drinks tho! Last but not least the sauces! I had voodoo something I forget the exact name but it wasn’t great, wasn’t horrible either but it was DEFINITELY better than the hot honey! The hot honey was exactly that HOT (temp wise) honey not a drop of hot sauce was present! Not a drop of hear was present so my daughter just put hers to the side and ate her chicken plain but my husband used his though!… ALL IN ALL my husband didn’t finish his SWAI my daughter had a wing and a half left with almost all of her fries and I had an ENTIRE bowl of gumbo left and just an fyi everything that was left was thrown away!

While they were a but busy the quality for the price could be A LOT better! We spent $112 on chicken and fries trying to support a black owned business just to be let down! So my take on it is TAKE YOUR BUSINESS ELSE WHERE unless you want fake catfish, just barely done wings, and hair filled gumbo!

The food was a little pricey but well worth it. I had the crawfish poor boy which was amazing. I grew up in the bayou and this was spot on. The sweet tea is super sweet and great. There was a little bit of a wait for the food, but this food is.worth the wait.

Came with two friends. Me and one of them got our food quick and everything was chef’s kiss, delicious! No complaints there. But my other friend wanted the shrimp & grits, and they flat out played her. First, they told her it’d be a 20 minute wait. Cool, no problem. Then 20 minutes passed, and suddenly it’s another 30 minutes? Then one of the cooks admitted they didn’t want to make grits because “they’d have to watch it” and it would slow them down. Excuse me?? That’s not our fault! that’s literally your job. If it’s on the menu, it should be an option, not some behind the scenes “we pick and choose what we feel like cooking today” deal.

We were sitting there eating while she had to find something else. So yeah, the food’s good, but don’t expect to get everything they advertise.

Oh. My. God… 4 Hens Creole Kitchen at City Foundry is the best creole in St. Louis. We ordered “Down in the Bayou”, “Creole Voodoo Queen Chicken Basket”, and “Fried Catfish”. Every bite was delicious. Staff were very friendly, they were busy when we went but the wait wasn’t long.
