I pulled up to an older, fairly non-descript food trailer with no obvious name or graphics explaining what kind of food was being served. Normally that might give some people pause, but I’ve always been a bit of a food adventurer. Sometimes the best gems are found in unsuspecting places, and you really shouldn’t judge a book by its cover—though a pleasing cover certainly helps.
3rd Coast Burger Co., as the name implies, focuses on burgers. The two people inside were welcoming and explained what was available. The menu was simple: burger, fries, and lemonade. I usually keep my expectations modest when trying a new place because, honestly, anyone can make a burger—but truly good, memorable burgers are harder to find.
My wait time was about 10 minutes, which is reasonable for fresh food. I ordered a cheeseburger, fries, and a lemonade. When my order came up, it was served in a simple paper box with napkins and, most importantly, the food: a smash-style cheeseburger topped with a generous amount of grilled, caramelized onions, plus fries on the side.
Unwrapping the burger, it was slightly greasy—in a good way, the way a proper burger should be. On the first bite, I got an explosion of flavor. probably one of the best burgers I’ve ever had, so delicious. I got the Old Skool double-cheeseburger. I managed to finish it, but I was stuffed. hit the spot!
