First, there’s no sign or anyone telling you what to do when you walk in, you kinda just have to guess (which was seating yourself). I’m sure this is fine for a local place like this, but it’s right next to a major highway which many people from all over can easily come and get a bite to eat on their long road trips.
Second, this is minor, but the menus were missing an important detail about the appetizers. On the list, it just says “regular” and “Mexican style” with no details or context to explain what this is (they were cheeze sticks). This is counterintuitive to a menu which should provide as many details as possible so as to make the ordering process quicker by reducing the amount of questions asked to the waiter/server. Again, fine for a local place, but anyone not local is required to ask to know what it is. Something that would take maybe 10 minutes to fix for all the menus in the restaurant.
Third, I suppose this is normal for a small town restaurant with little staff, but it took nearly 20 minutes from when we sat down to when we were served. Food another 20, and maybe 10-15 eating. What could have been a 30 minute stop turned into just over an hour accounting for time spent paying the bill and leaving. Not the end of the world, but I didn’t anticipate it taking an hour to get a bite at a slow restaurant.
Lastly, don’t sit at any of the left side tables except for the one closest to the door, unless you want to get hit with Chinese water torture while you’re eating food. The condensation from the air conditioning drips down on top of you because it’s uninsulated. This is pretty annoying and although I didn’t really care, could easily be seen as unsanitary if it dripped into or on your food. This is big problem!
Other than that, the food was pretty good. I’d eat here again if it didn’t take nearly as long. It’s possible I just got there with bad timing, but who knows.
To the locals, sorry for nitpicking. I’ve been in the restaurant industry for years and it’s the little things that people notice like this that ruin the experience. I look forward to seeing some proactive changes. This can be a 5 star restaurant!
