The kind hostess welcomes guests to decide whether be seated near the bar, or at the intimate banquettes along the perimeter. The seating is comfortable with silk pillows to comfort the back. And the walls display a collage of historic photos of Thai locations & family members. Cozy & contemporary at the same time.
I visited twice. Once for dinner and then again for lunch. The ambiance is completely different, but equally as inviting. The evenings are perfect for date night, girls night out and family gatherings. The daytime is brighter & more resort-like. The music reminds me of lunch on a veranda in along the beach in Miami… cool & soothing jazz.
There is a nice selection of vegetarian items, and I had a Thai Basil Vegetarian Set for Lunch today. The 3 items came out in the cutest stackable “bento” box, which I later learned is called a “pinto” box in Thailand. I am a sucker for Zero Waste & so I was dying to ask where I could find one! This would be a super cute way to start a lunch take out club for local residents or working people nearby to do a takeout subscription club, provided they would agree to return them.
The one thing I can say is that the meal was aligned with “zero waste” principles, which converts me to diehard “fandom”.
I spotted 3 lovely young women get tickled pink by the pretty pink glass bowls full of mango and raspberry sorbet. And then there are the orchids… sigh… pretty sprays of fuchsia orchids nestled on a table of tropical plants. Makes me want to invite a long lost local friend for a belated birthday dinner…
If you are looking for an escape from the ordinary, this is a sanctuary worth sharing with a friend.
Would definitely come again!
2 stars only since they charged me more than what I wrote on the receipt. We dined in and gave a generous tip. Ordered a to go for my roommate and since it’s a to go, I didn’t tip. I just looked at my credit card now and it’s not what I wrote on the receipt. Pictures for reference. I already disputed it with my bank. It may be an honest mistake but what about the people who don’t check their banks or don’t take pictures of their receipts? ♀️
When I arrived, there were only about five guests in the entire restaurant, so I felt confident timing wouldn’t be an issue. I lived in Town Brookhaven for three years and was there when 26 Thai first opened; during those first couple of years, the service was excellent. Over the past year, however, I’ve noticed service times steadily increasing, and today was unfortunately the worst experience I’ve had.
It took over 30 minutes to receive two sushi rolls. I had asked only for the spicy 26 Yum Yum sauce on the side, but when the rolls arrived, they had no sauce at all, everything was on the side. When I mentioned it, the server Crystal said she misunderstood and thought I wanted all sauce on the side. The rolls were then taken back to be fixed, which took an additional 5 minutes. By the time they returned, I no longer had time to eat at all. 🙁
I had not eaten in about eight hours and ultimately had to leave without eating before my appointment. While the Manager Kai did process the refund I requested, there was little to no empathy, no apology, no offer to package the food to go, and no gesture of goodwill or future compensation for the inconvenience.
This was once a local favorite of mine, but this experience was extremely disappointing. Especially when there are nearby sushi restaurants like OKU or EIGHT, where prices are comparable but food arrives in 15–20 minutes and customer service is consistently excellent. Unfortunately, this will be my last visit to 26 Thai.
I made a reservation in advance for a party of about 18 people and asked all the right questions beforehand, but when we arrived, it felt like the expectations suddenly changed. We were told they would only accept one card for the entire table, and that the staff weren’t trained to split tabs for larger parties. This was surprising and frustrating, especially since splitting checks is such a common and standard practice at many other restaurants. It created an awkward situation where my guests and I had to sort everything out ourselves, which took away from what should have been an enjoyable celebration.
The overall hospitality also felt underwhelming for a birthday celebration. The restaurant wasn’t particularly busy for a Saturday night, yet the accommodations still felt rigid and inflexible.
Even small birthday touches felt lacking. While they do come out and sing, any birthday dessert still has to be purchased, as there was no complimentary gesture. It’s not about getting something for free, but about feeling welcomed and celebrated, but instead felt dampened and overlooked.
What makes this have a lingering taste is that my trust in this place was built over multiple positive personal visits. Because of that, I felt confident choosing it for such an important occasion. This experience, however, has deterred me from wanting to make any returns here. Despite how beautiful and atmospheric the restaurant is, the service and accommodations didn’t match the setting. Just putting my two cents out here for anyone considering hosting larger or special-occasion dinners here.
tl;dr great for date nights, not so much for larger groups.
