A quick day trip to St. Joseph on Valentine’s Day had me wondering if we would be able to get into a restaurant for dinner. Hostess was wonderful and got us a table. Our server was very attentive. Friendly staff all around. The food was amazing; Ahi tuna for a starter was simply delicious. I had the Parmesan Crudted White Fish…and OMGoodness – where have you been all my life! Hubby had the NY Strip – so good and I could’ve ate a bowl of their mashed potatoes. Thankfully hubby let me sample his side. We shared a slice of NY Cheesecake with a Tart Cherry topping…huge serving – glad we shared but at the same time I wanted it all myself!! If you’re in town, go here! It’s a must!

221 is one of those establishments that never fails to exceed my expectations every single time.

The owner, Robert, is often the first person you meet walking in the door. His passion for his restaurant is infectious. Set aside a few minutes and ask him about Bourbon and Whiskey. He maintains a Whiskey “Library” with hundreds of different brands. He travels every year, visiting distilleries and adding to his Library.

A special experience is The Terrace during the summer months. Roof top dining, a quiet and cozy atmosphere, and outstanding food await you.

The food is incredible. On my last visit I had the Garlic Ribeye and even before I tasted the first bite I could tell that the cut of the meat was special. I also got to try a bit of the Chicken Marsala. Both were spectacular. A perfectly prepared Crème Brûlée for dessert rounded out the evening.

I would suggest a reservation during peak months or weekends. Parking can be a bit tricky during peak season, plan on walking a couple of blocks to get there. Trust me, it is worth the walk.

I love beautifully constructed meals and I’ll pay more for a nice dish, but be so for real right now with this portion of panna cotta. I’d pay more for you to insult me with portion sizes. Panna cotta is plated in fusion between avant garde and minimalism which may sound confounding as avant garde is already THE defining style of minimalism, but trust me here. This would make a decent avant garde piece if the mint leaves weren’t so… random — because the rest of the dish is geometric and controlled, and then the mint is plopped on like an afterthought. I think the designer was going for a juxtaposed look but it just doesn’t work here. Also, do I eat it with a demitasse spoon or lick my plate?

Not going to lie, though, service here was really good when I ate here last. The bar was gorgeous. They were sold out of their special which is what we came for. Food was meh.

Edit: You don’t have to eat something to visually dislike plating. Portion sizes like this, in this economy are insulting.

I celebrated my birthday at Main 221, and the service we received from Laura (our server) and Crystal (the bartender) made the night absolutely unforgettable. My husband made the reservation, and before we even arrived, the team reached out to him via email to confirm details—such a thoughtful and professional touch.

When we were seated, there was a beautiful birthday card waiting on the table, and from that moment on, Laura took amazing care of us. She was warm, friendly, and incredibly attentive throughout the entire evening.
Crystal, the bartender, went above and beyond as well. She noticed we were fans of Old Fashioneds and came over to chat with us about different styles and flavor profiles. She even crafted two special Old Fashioneds that weren’t on the menu just for us—such a fun and memorable experience!

On top of the great service, the food was fantastic. I ordered the whitefish, which was absolutely delicious—and it even tasted phenomenal reheated the next day. My husband had the garlic ribeye and loved every bite.

To finish the night, they surprised me with a celebratory cookie skillet topped with a candle. It was such a thoughtful gesture and truly made my birthday feel special.

We left feeling genuinely cared for, and this will definitely be our go-to spot whenever we’re in St. Joseph, Michigan. Thank you, Laura and Crystal, for making my birthday one to remember!

I can’t rate the food because we were there for drinks. First time in since the remodel was done. And wow, just amazing. The bourbon selection was incredible. The staff was incredible. Amazing experience. Can’t wait to come back for the full experience if you will. Apps, dinner, and drinks.

Came here on 04/18/2025, but haven’t had a chance to review it until now.

Absolutely amazing dining experience—-from the food, to the service, to the atmosphere! Right off the bat, the host was very welcoming and friendly! Our wait staff was Megan J, and she too, was very friendly, with warm smile and was attentive.

To start, we had the Seared Ahi Tuna. Taste and presentation was spectacular! In fact, everything was! For drinks, my husband ordered the Smoked Pecan Old Fashioned, and mine was the Spanish Coffee. Both were awesome! In fact, my husband ordered another glass! My little girl got herself a pineapple juice.

For the entree, I had the One Lobster Dinner. Right away after tasting it, I wished I ordered 2 because it was perfection! It was perfectly cooked, where it was sweet, tender, bouncy, and juicy! The clarified butter came in its own stand with a tea light candle right below it to keep it nice and warm!

My husband ordered the Seafood Pasta and he, too, loved it! My daughter wanted the sirloin from the kid’s menu, so we ordered it medium. It indeed came out perfectly medium and ir was already sliced for her.

For dessert, I ordered the crème brûlée. It was a huge portion meant for sharing, except that my husband was too full to share. My daughter being too picky didn’t even touch it, so I couldn’t finish it myself. I wish the caramelized sugar was just a tad thicker because that’s my favorite part!

Overall, I can’t wait to be back again! Highly recommend!

We were staying in the area for our 10 year wedding anniversary. We heard great things about this spot and knew we had to check it out. My wife and I enjoyed every bite of our meal and our server was amazing. We felt welcomed and she took time with us on the menu and different options they have. We will definitely tell everyone about our great experience and hope to be back soon!

*Edit – my wife and I also come from the food and beverage industry in Vegas. This location is spot on with literally everything. The cuisine, the atmosphere, the service. All extremely well done.

We came here on a weekend getaway! We had never been to St. Joseph so we had used Google to find our choice for dinner. We came on a busy night, with a reservation, and we were promptly seated although we were 15 minutes early. The drinks were outstanding! I cant remember the name of the Old Fashioned I had but it was part of the 12 Drinks of Christmas! The service was amazing as well! I gave the food 4 instead of 5 stars because even though it was good, and we did eat all of our meals, I just felt like it could have been better! Please dont let that help make your decision, as that is only my opinion and yours may vary. I would definitely come back here again should we ever come back to town.

Pros: delicious food, great service from our server, great ambiance.
Cons: bartender failed at making an old fashioned…. Three times (I bought all 3). Way way too sweet. And by the second time with that feedback you’d think the bartender would skip the sugar altogether to swing too far in the opposite direction. Nope, still a ton of sugar.
Aside from the bartender needing some training, everything else was great.

Food: 5/5 (Very delicious meal!)
Service: 5/5 (Awesome staff and service!)
Atmosphere: 5/5 (Classy, neat, and welcoming.)

What an amazing experience and restaurant! 221 Main restaurant was magnificent! Located in St. Joseph, Michigan, this restaurant is a great date spot for adults to let their hair down, dress up, and enjoy amazing food. If you decide to go, it’s best to get a reservation.

The food is so good! Very delicious looking plates and great tasting! We enjoyed the steak and pork chop. As an appetizer, I enjoyed the calamari. The drinks were amazing as well! We enjoyed a drink without alcohol and of course, I tore the water up. Lovely food!

The service was amazing! All the servers were kind, on top of their work, and are very good with the menu. The water came at great pace, and the meals came hot.

The atmosphere was classy and inviting. I loved the dim lights and the adult feel. I appreciated the decor and the beautiful walls. Everything looked perfect!

221 Main is a lovely restaurant to experience. The price point is a little high, but the food and quality are worth it.
