I love how the restaurant combines the old with the new and puts their own spin on popular dishes like the Big Kahuna burger and fried green tomatoes.
Personally, I’d prefer regular sliced pineapple on my burger, but otherwise, I love their Big Kahuna burger. Now all that it needs is a $5 milkshake, within reason, of course, ha ha! #PulpFictionFan
So yeah, if you love good food and are feeling nostalgic for 20th century American culture, then give 1936 Bar & Grill a try, especially after a long day of gambling and/or walking along the beach.
Shoutout to my future husband, Andy, and his family for taking me here before work!
On the flip side, the server was very pleasant and attentive, venue is clean and spacious with good views and easy parking.
A new restaurant in Chesapeake beach, located on the 2nd and 3rd floor of the new parking garage on the rod and real parking lot. First off the views are amazing as they have a lot of windows and outdoor seating. So far I experienced the following:
Steak and crabcake A-
The crabcake was very good, no filler steak could have been more tender.
Rock fish bites A+ A large amount of fish, could be a meal but its an appetizer.
Wings A, large and tasty (sweet chilli flavor)
Chesapeake Fries C-, covered with crab dip I felt it lacked taste. To me some old bay was strongly needed. To be fair my wife liked.
Overall the place is clean and very pleasant amenities. Due to them being new I will defer on speed of service but the quality has been very good. Staff very friendly. It now has become one of my go to spots
If you remember the old Smokey Joe’s down at the Rod and Reel club, you will really enjoy the 1936. It is like an updated modern version of the old restaurant with more or less the same cuisine, especially the fried chicken.
Drinks and food items on the menu we’re reasonably priced if you consider that this is a resort location for the DC metropolitan area.
The selection was definitely focused on Southern Maryland delicacies. I must confess that I might have even liked a little more selection of Southern Maryland offerings. Nonetheless, a very good sampling.
We ordered the rockfish bites as an appetizer and the last time I had rockfish this fresh and this good, I had caught it myself out of the bay.
The Southern Maryland fried Chicken is definitely a “must have” food item. But if seafood is your desire, I would heartily suggest the crab cakes.
The beer selection was quite adequate and the cocktail menu look quite extensive as well.
We did not have room for dessert, but it looked like a very yummy selection.
The restaurant was not terribly busy but the service staff seemed somewhat stretched. We had to actually ask for our check and the waitress only revisited us once. However to her credit, we were actually doing just fine.
We will definitely return to this establishment and try more of their delightful food offerings and drinks too.
We had the rockfish appetizer with buffalo sauce and tarter sauce. Very good. Not over fried or battered.
We shared the southern fried chicken sandwich with seasoned fries. All very fresh and good.
The atmosphere and setting is great. Right on the pier watching boats come in. Great bar
