If dining on good old fashioned American hamburgers and other popular American foods by the ocean sounds like a dream come true, then swing on by and give 1936 Bar & Grill a try.

I love how the restaurant combines the old with the new and puts their own spin on popular dishes like the Big Kahuna burger and fried green tomatoes.

Personally, I’d prefer regular sliced pineapple on my burger, but otherwise, I love their Big Kahuna burger. Now all that it needs is a $5 milkshake, within reason, of course, ha ha! #PulpFictionFan

So yeah, if you love good food and are feeling nostalgic for 20th century American culture, then give 1936 Bar & Grill a try, especially after a long day of gambling and/or walking along the beach.

Shoutout to my future husband, Andy, and his family for taking me here before work!

The food here is always great and I never had an issue until tonight. I placed an order for take out and when I got home one of the meals looked very under proportioned and looked like it was missing some ingredients. I immediately called in and they asked me to bring back the meal we were unhappy with. Even though it was a minor inconvenience I returned and they made a new meal which then looked exactly how it looked last time I had it during a dine in meal. Thank you for making it right without hesitation!

2 stars – 1 for potential and 1 for location. Bland would be the best way to describe the food. If you want to sell yourself as “All American” food, maybe don’t have Jackie Chan’s grandfather as the chef? Three meals and nothing with flavor, luke warm soup – and how can you mess up pretzel bites?! Really…. Would gave been better with a grocery store visit and a microwave – and would’ve saved a bunch of money.
On the flip side, the server was very pleasant and attentive, venue is clean and spacious with good views and easy parking.

Well as of May 2025 I am not going back to this place! Stale bread for a crab cake that was mediocre at best. Very small wings under cooked green beans that they forgot to bring prices are high which would be fine if it was good. Save your money. They are understaffed and don’t care what they sling out. It’s a shame bc it use to be very good but the last 4 years has proved not worthy of my money nor yours. Maybe you go for a drink but then go to a real restaurant

A new restaurant in Chesapeake beach, located on the 2nd and 3rd floor of the new parking garage on the rod and real parking lot. First off the views are amazing as they have a lot of windows and outdoor seating. So far I experienced the following:
Steak and crabcake A-
The crabcake was very good, no filler steak could have been more tender.
Rock fish bites A+ A large amount of fish, could be a meal but its an appetizer.
Wings A, large and tasty (sweet chilli flavor)

Chesapeake Fries C-, covered with crab dip I felt it lacked taste. To me some old bay was strongly needed. To be fair my wife liked.
Overall the place is clean and very pleasant amenities. Due to them being new I will defer on speed of service but the quality has been very good. Staff very friendly. It now has become one of my go to spots

Hadn’t visited here in a long time. Was going regularly but the flies were out of control. Decided to visit again and sat outside. We enjoyed our food and menu was vastly different than our last visit. Most of our favorite items are gone but what we had was delicious.

This was a nice place to eat overlooking the water. The presentation on the burger was neat, but the flavor was just adequate. It didn’t really have any flavor, and the fries were okay. The staff was friendly and didn’t leave us waiting or anything anything.

What a delightful experience! With my daughter and my beautiful bride, we just really enjoyed ourselves.

If you remember the old Smokey Joe’s down at the Rod and Reel club, you will really enjoy the 1936. It is like an updated modern version of the old restaurant with more or less the same cuisine, especially the fried chicken.

Drinks and food items on the menu we’re reasonably priced if you consider that this is a resort location for the DC metropolitan area.

The selection was definitely focused on Southern Maryland delicacies. I must confess that I might have even liked a little more selection of Southern Maryland offerings. Nonetheless, a very good sampling.

We ordered the rockfish bites as an appetizer and the last time I had rockfish this fresh and this good, I had caught it myself out of the bay.

The Southern Maryland fried Chicken is definitely a “must have” food item. But if seafood is your desire, I would heartily suggest the crab cakes.

The beer selection was quite adequate and the cocktail menu look quite extensive as well.

We did not have room for dessert, but it looked like a very yummy selection.

The restaurant was not terribly busy but the service staff seemed somewhat stretched. We had to actually ask for our check and the waitress only revisited us once. However to her credit, we were actually doing just fine.

We will definitely return to this establishment and try more of their delightful food offerings and drinks too.

BLUF: great food, not crowded at lunch

We had the rockfish appetizer with buffalo sauce and tarter sauce. Very good. Not over fried or battered.

We shared the southern fried chicken sandwich with seasoned fries. All very fresh and good.

The atmosphere and setting is great. Right on the pier watching boats come in. Great bar

When I go to a bar and grill I expect bar and grill food. Nothing on the menu is amazing its all very mediocre. The killer is its way overpriced. If im paying 17 dollars for a rueben and 33 dollars for Mac and cheese it better be worth it and this place is not everytime ive gone in its virtually dead. But the people are nice everything else is sub par its like a high-end restaurant serving 3 day old mcdonalds those 2 just dont mix. Anyways I wont be returning if I can help it. Not worth the trouble to get there id rather order food from catch 22 or traders and spend half as much.

Food was good. Service was great. Atmosphere I gave four stars, mostly because I’m used to it being a little more quiet around this time, which is just a personal preferance. It wasn’t bad, just hard to make conversation with my dad or hear our server between the live music and loud drunk people, which is no big deal. Other than that minor thing everything was great.
