It wouldnt be fair to comment on the atmosphere because we got takeout; but I did notice the place is essentially lit up by sconces and dimmed lights. Thats ok, I guess. Cozy after a day at one of the resorts.
We picked up: the poutine, the arugula salad, and the fried chicken sandwich.
The poutine was about as expected. Just french fires with curds chucked in, moderately melted by heat of the short rib. Not much presence of a gravy at all but I can assume the red wine cooked into the short rib was suppose to pick up the slack on that. Expectations for poutine outside of french canada shouldn’t be high. So, whatever.
The arugula salad was good, with the exception(s) of there was no crispy pork belly in it as advertised (pics provided). And their version of a “maple vinaigrette” is something. And by something, I mean not a hint of maple and was a light orange color. Not good or bad, just not maple at all. Jasper Hill blue cheese and the pork belly (i assume) is doing all the work in this salad.
And the chicken. Advertised as “marinated in buttermilk” but the breading looks almost identical to an Aldis brand frozen fried chicken patty (which i actually love lol). Besides that, I couldnt tell you if it was good because I cut it in half and it was straight pink and mush on the inside. Almost a salmon color. I get kitchens have moments of fault so Im willing to take the heat and say it was just a mishap that doesnt occur often.
Its like this building has a bad omen for servong food the last 10 years.
Good luck to the new owners, I hope to go back in the future under better reviews from the other locals.
Joe was very sweet in accommodating our puppy, we sat away from other patrons.
The poutine, honey chilli chicken wings, burgers and chilli are favourites of ours! The poutine is a must in a cold winters day.
The restaurant also has some lovely bright views of the stream behind.
We ordered a chicken parm sub, but got meatballs and spaghetti. The person who dropped off the food goes “ya, that’s what one would expect when ordered meatball parm” .
I ordered the VT cheddar burger, no cheese add bacon. It came with just bacon and nothing else on it. No onions, no jam, no aioli, no nothing. The burger, itself, was solid.
Someone else ordered the butternut squash soup. Turns out they were out , but another waitress was trying to force the person to get another soup. Very odd.
Everything seemed so unorganized and nobody really knew what they were doing.
(And please don’t miss the chance to try the meatloaf!!!!)
.
The SOUP on a FRIDAY night was out so that was a bummer
The salad a few of us ordered was good but placed in a to go container
.
Maybe I ordered wrong because I think the salad had so much sugar in it via the berries that it kept me awake
.
The highlight was the staff and their willingness to accommodate by making a hot tea for one of my clients
.
The pasta was a hit but everything else food-wize I guess we mis-ordered. Hope to come back and try the soup or the pizza and yes I saw a real brick oven
