Husband and wife owners – Kelli and Jason Kolich – are proud to bring authentic Neapolitan pizzas to Kansas City. What is Neapolitan style pizza? Five main components make up a Neapolitan pizza:
1) The crust is hand tossed, thin and comprised of only 00 flour, salt, water and yeast.
2) The sauce is crushed San Marzano tomatoes.
3) The cheese is fresh fior di latte mozzarella.
4) Each pizza gets a drizzle of extra virgin olive oil to enhance the flavor.
5) Pizzas are cooked in wood-fired hearth ovens that reach temperatures in excess of 1,000 degrees. That means they cook fast, like 90 seconds fast.

We stopped in here as a secondary option due to another place having a ridiculous line around the building. I am glad that we went here instead. This was our first time visiting 1889 Pizza Napoletana and we will for sure be back.
When we walked in we really liked the aesthetics of the restaurant. It was very clean and well kept.
The staff greeted us right away and informed us where the menu was as it was our first time. There are numerous selections to choose from.
I ordered The Butcher pizza and it was amazing. I definitely could’ve shared with my significant other and would have been content. The serving sizes are roughly a medium pizza so they could easily be split between 2 people.
The atmosphere was inviting and they had a solid play list playing in the restaurant.
Overall we were thoroughly impressed and plan to return next time we’re in Kansas City.

this location definitely had Fun atmosphere! Great pizza! Coke products for those that care. Beautiful outdoor seating. The inside was a mixture of comfortable and fun. Great location for families or friends. Just hanging out. Service was friendly and fast. I know I said it earlier but the pizza was really good. Plenty of options pre-design pizzas or build your own. Sadly, I don’t need any photos of the pizza. It was too good and I ate it very quickly…

Amazing pizza with great taste and freshness! The crust is perfectly baked, the toppings are generous, and the cheese is delicious. Service is fast and the staff is very friendly. Every visit is a pleasant experience. Highly recommended for anyone looking for tasty and satisfying pizza.

This was our first visit to 1889, and found this place based on the positive buzz online. It does not disappoint! They start you off with a solid menu of traditional, I guess I’d say understated pizzas that emphasize nuanced flavors and quality ingredients over bulk and large numbers of ingredients. The whole staff was super helpful and friendly. I even made a last-minute change to my order when Erica at the checkout told me her personal favorite combo; Quattro Frommagio with the addition of Italian sausage and a side of honey with chili oil. SO GOOD!! One of my sons commented it was the best pizza crust he’d ever eaten. And the atmosphere is cool, too. Nice dining room, not over-lit. Oh yeah, and a lot of nice wines and a half dozen or so excellent beers on tap.
We’ll be back!

This was such a disappointing experience. Met my dinner companion at 6 and ordered. Salad was brought out at 6:15. My pizza never arrived until my friends got up and asked for it. Then 10+ minutes later they brought me something that’s not even on the menu. I’m so confused how they thought that was my order. Chicken, tomatoes, banana peppers and bbq sauce. When I took that back up, they urgently made my correct pizza which was The Prized Pig (received at 6:48pm) and it doesn’t look anything like the photo on the website. The bbq sauce on this is more like thousand island dressing. Pretty disappointing experience. If we return, I’ll stick to Margherita only. The staff was clueless, but very nice. Food took way too long for a very empty restaurant at a 6pm on a Saturday night. Apparently saturday night kids eat free so my son’s food was free which helped an otherwise salty experience.

The pizza was delicious! The crust was thin and crispy, not what I expected from what I thought would be a traditional neapolitan pizza. The ingredients were fresh. The atmosphere was modern but also very relaxed. You looked at a menu on the wall and then ordered at a counter. The sodas were refillable and self-service. It was all delicious and the staff were super friendly.

We ordered a pizza, an appetizer and a salad online and were given a pick up time. My husband showed up at the time given and was told it would be longer. After 15 additional minutes he was told the pizza had been on the warmer the whole time. My husband had to remind them about the salad. And then he had to wait on the salad. And they forgot to give us the appetizer. When I called there was no apology or acknowledgement of the poor service. I asked for a refund on the appetizer and the person on the phone acted like they had no idea what I was talking about. I asked for a manager and the person on the phone said there wasn’t a manager on duty. Worse service ever. Do not recommend. The pizza was terrible because it sat on a warmer for at least 30 minutes. And no refund on the missing appetizer.

This place was AMAZING and so well decorated. Even had the history/certificate of the owner who went to Pizza Academy in Italy. The food was great and well presented. The (not really downfall) was the staff was pretty busy and our orders came out all at different times. It wasn’t anything to big to complain about. Everyone was great and so helpful in navigating the menu. We definitely added it to our favorite food spots AND its local business.

Very great environment and service is beyond above par. The pizza is good. Enjoyed the stone fire taste. The sauce was a little low if flavor and a bit watery. I thought I would have some fresh basil on the margarita pizza, but it was cooked in instead. The meat pizza was loaded again, very bland sausage, but not everyone loves a spicy sausage, so I get it.

1889 Pizza Napoletana is hands-down the best pizza I’ve ever eaten. Their handmade crust is truly out of this world—light, airy, and perfectly charred. I don’t think I’ve ever tasted anything like it. It’s clear they put incredible care and skill into their craft.
The staff are equally impressive—attentive, friendly, and passionate about what they do. They elevate the entire experience with their hospitality. And the drink selection? Fantastic. Whether you’re in the mood for a great wine, a craft beer, or something non-alcoholic, they’ve got you covered.
