We went for the crab leg buffet last night, but the line was too long. So we decided to give this beautiful restaurant a try. I’m so glad we did! My husband and I got the Crab fondue appetizers, the 16 ounce (!) Ribeye, a side of mashed potatoes, a side of Brussel sprouts and a slice of carrot cake for dessert….for under $100! Everything was delicious! I will be dreaming of that steak! It was cooked perfectly and the crust on the outside? Chef’s kiss! The side dish portions are huge!

Give this place a try! You won’t be disappointed!

First time visitor to 1853 Bistro and Bar. We received a $75 voucher for being players at Ameristar Casino, located inside the same building as Casino, hotel, etc.

Newly renovated from previous restaurant – nicely decorated and clean upscale environment.

Large selection of food and drinks to choose from.

On our visit, our server was annoyed she got a table 2 hrs before closing. She rolled her eyes on several occasions from her first greeting to our final check.

Bread and Oil is given upon arrival. Oil is sweet and delish! If we could’ve gotten more, we would have! Highly recommend, even if you sit at bar and just order drinks.

We went with two options to try out and split. Our favorite by far was the chicken Alfredo. Creamy sauce, tender and moist chicken. Plenty of sauce, noodles and chicken.

Our second dish was the chicken, veggies and potatoes. Veggies and potatoes were good – tender and tasty. The chicken was small, dry and not good. The price was not justified. Maybe because it was close to closing we were given older chicken, but just not good.

Thankful for a $75 voucher as we paid $1.26 + tip. If we returned, we would not get the chicken dinner and stick to the Alfredo or try the steaks.

Tip: select one of the dinners to get veggies, etc, but mostly everything is al a cart.

Recommendation: yes, but the prices on dishes do not justify the portions.

My wife and I sat at bar, Saturday 30th the host saved us seats with menus- thanks she rocks! did not see her name! There was only 2 -3 couples in restaurant some reservations didn’t show hosted said we could go in after certain time which was fair we did not have reservations! FOOD: We had had short ribs which they brought out roast instead and half chicken grilled both ere good a lot of food took home a lot of it, DRINKS Buffalo Trace and glass of Kolsch beer both was very good! staff Bartender- Amanda respectful awesome and very helpful knowledgeable great to have she was helpful was busy excellent service with a smile no complaints! Amanda always asked how things were very good people skills busy and making a difference in customers she even was joking. For as busy they were the-boss did help service but has not stop ask how food was for anyone maybe next time.-
Bobby a host did come in visited tables did not get to us though next time!, Garrett did and told us to make sure we enjoy our day and hopefully we! He rocks! There was 8 at bar Amanda got behind the boss ( did not have name tag on) came back in made drinks did not talk to anyone or ask how things were going! We will return hopefully the Manager will stop by tables as will the host when they come in! Grest atmosphere and decor! Will try the wings and other next time Good place for breakfast amazing food!

The food was really good and I love how quick we got it. I really love how many pieces of French toast we could get. Sadly the hash browns were a little bit runny, and kinda burnt on the sides. Overall I loved it and hope to return very very soon.

I ordered a ribeye steak cooked rare, with grilled asparagus and a chocolate torte on 10/16/2025. (because the bartender raved about how great they are) The asparagus and chocolate torte were excellent, the steak lacked seasoning to make it taste good. I did pour lots of salt and pepper on it to be able to eat it.
When I pay $48.00 for a steak I expect to be wowed with the flavor! I was disappointed! Maybe I caught them on a bad day! I contacted the manager and he did offer to buy me a replacement meal when I return to Council Bluffs. I appreciate that!

From start to finish our first time experience was amazing! The team was great. The place was clean. The food was top notch! We wanted to try different things not realizing the portions were so big so now we have left overs for the week! Totally worth it! This place is slept on.

I have been in the food world for 20 years.Im an Executive Chef. I Had the smoked half chicken. What a disappointment cut up not half chicken didn’t taste smoked at all, it had Memphis bbq sauce not good and very dry. The baby bakers are a rusted potato baked before, then chops and fried, NASTY I would never serve them. My wife had the pork chop she said they were ok 2out of 5. The bread and balsamic garlic oil was the best part of my meal. Also are server Kelli was very very slow only had 4 tables 2 people on each.
I have eaten in a lot of restaurants in casinos this place takes the throne for worst food .

We stopped by this place last night on a whim because the line for the buffet was too long of a wait. We were not disappointed at all! I had an aperol spritz and it was strong and did the job. Our complimentary bread was soft and warm! We didn’t have reservations so we sat at the bar and the bartender was really down to earth and helpful in recommending crowd favorites. I ended up ordering the New York strip with a buttered baked potato and my guy ordered the prime rib with Mac and cheese. The food was 10/10 phenomenal! Every single bite was mouth watering I would compare this to any high end restaurant that I have been to. I did not see the poor reviews until I was about to post mine BUT I completely disagree and had an entirely different experience! I had mentioned we were celebrating for my birthday and they offered me a complimentary desert of my choosing! The prices were on the higher end but we did not mind paying them for the quality of the food and service which was received. We will be back you better believe!

A step back in time of a very fine dining experience.
What an amazing evening from the moment Alan greeted us at the door and escorted us to our table.

Justin, our server, stepped in to introduce himself, offer our menus, water, and bread with a wonderful dipping sauce while also taking our drink order.
Justin returned with our drinks and shared thoughts of the menu selections.

We started with an amazing seafood melody of lobster, scallop, and shrimp fondue as our appetizer. Followed by two perfectly prepared tender filet mignon, a shared baked potatoe, sautéed mushrooms all prepared by their excellent chef.

Justin checked on us often, as did the restaurant manager Troy. We followed dinner with an amazing dessert and closed the place down after an unforgettable dining experience.

Our meal was excellent, crab cakes, filet, baked potato loaded, carrot cake, superb. Our server Cindy was amazing and Chef Jolene stopped by to check on us, kudos to the staff.
