This cozy, family-run Italian spot is the real deal. The owners live upstairs, and it truly feels like you’re dining in their home. From start to finish, the experience was warm, authentic, and unforgettable. Our waitress was fantastic—friendly, intuitive, and gave perfect recommendations. We started with a delicious burrata caprese and a unique rolled Italian meat appetizer—both bursting with flavor. The handmade gnocchi was pillowy and rich, coated in a sauce that tasted like it had been simmering for hours. A true taste of Italy and a one-of-a-kind dining experience.

We were a party of 6 with two birthday girls, and we had a delightful evening. Our wait staff, Dominique and Joe, made us feel like family. The bathrooms were squeaky clean (which is our key metric for trustworthiness) with fun decor. Although our total bill was high enough that we wouldn’t be able to this frequently, the little extras and AMAZINGLY YUMMY food made it worth it. Everyone was thrilled.

Saturday 9/20/25 – group of 10.
This month our buddy Jim picked 1731 for the birthday club and it was FABULOUS! I apologize for not posting pics, but other posts can show you how AWESOME everything looks. The conversation with Ashley and the seamless flow of the appetizers being served made it so I didn’t touch my phone much. After that we were being served without missing a beat as we enjoyed more conversations with Emily and Robin. Kudos to the Chef and the kitchen staff that helps make this restaurant so worth the trip. Conversation outside seemed agreed upon that we’ll be back not only for the birthday club but just a day of another wonderful meal!!

Legit as it gets. As someone whose family owns a successful Italian spot in the city, this place is a 100/10. The owner met us at the door and greeted us like family. She ran through a quick family/origin story which is the best part of any family style Italian place. Food was off the charts as was the atmosphere. Server was on the money. Thank-you 1731.

Local here and its our favorite spot where we treat ourselves on the rare occasions. Never had rude or slow service. The place is clean, warm and cozy but not oldschool dank like a lot of Italian restaurants. We always get the eggplant rollatini and my wife the clams with linguini, so good.

We went early last Saturday night….arrived at 4:00 for a 4:30 reservation and it was no issue. The owner, Robin (the youngest looking “Grandmom” you’ll ever see) met us at the door to welcome my wife and I as first time patrons. She was awesome like every single person you meet at this place. What a GREAT place! There were too many good things in our experience to fully detail but I’ll mention a couple. First and foremost was the service….Joe was so helpful on menu suggestions that proved true. He really cares about his job; so sincere in his effort to serve their guests. They have all the traditional Italian favorites but so much beyond those. One such unique special we had was the Rigatoni in Truffle Sauce. It had diced Filet Mignon in it that was super tender. We had them prepare the homemade gnocchi in their special Bacon Sauce as an appetizer….and it was even better than advertised. The warmed Cherry Tartlet with Cannoli Cream from a local bakery was an awesome dessert….so tasty. We didn’t get to try the Pizza but it looked terrific and we plan to go back soon so we’ll try it. We asked to sit on the second floor which gives the true feel of “Grandmom’s House” with all the furniture, etc.. The first floor gives the feel of a modern pizza parlor. We drive in from the suburbs often to do Italian food in South Philly….and this spot is now on our short list as we’ve told so many others. So easy to get here (right down the street) from the Live! Casino and the Sports Stadiums. Parking was super easy….another big benefit to this spot. If we lived in the neighborhood, we’d come every week like others there we met seem to do. This is the definition of a true local gem.

Having dinner at this restaurant is like eating in your own home. Atmosphere is relaxing, servers are helpful explaining the menu. They make you feel at home. Coming from an Italian, I want to say the food was out of this world. The best in So. Philly! Try it! Julia kerwood (So.Philly Women’s Book/Social Club)

Today we attended a wonderful luncheon at the 1731 Restaurant. The service by the two waitresses was amazing. They went over and beyond to make our time there enjoyable. I wish I knew their names. The food was delicious and very generous portions. I highly recommend this family owned restaurant. We can’t wait to go back!!
