An exquisite, rustic, quaint bistro that evokes an intimate, old-world charm with refined simplicity.

Thoughtfully crafted dishes, locally sourced ingredients, beautifully plated comfort food, and attentive but unpretentious service.

Warm textures like reclaimed wood, stone walls, exposed beams, patinaed metals, and soft, ambient lighting that feels lived-in and authentic, flickering candles, and a neighborhood feel where conversations linger.

Overall, it’s a place that feels timeless and welcoming, blending elegance with comfort—perfect for slow meals, good wine, and meaningful conversation.

Service was fantastic. We were so well taken care of by both the owners, and by our server. She was attentive and took great care of us. The menu was diverse and fresh. Food was brought quickly and tastes really great. We loved the grape leaves. The chicken picatta was tasty. The Wellington tasted great and was served “deconstructed”. Overall, great ambiance, great experience, and great food.

I’m giving this local Waco spot 4 stars to support its online visibility and presence, as I believe in backing hometown businesses. That said, for potential diners reading this, I’d honestly rate our experience a generous 3 stars based on the service and value we received.
My girlfriend and I are avid foodies who dine out frequently, from casual eateries to high-end and even Michelin-starred restaurants. While our expectations weren’t high for a meal in our hometown, spending $400 on dinner warrants a level of quality and attention that we felt fell short here—though it ended up being memorably entertaining in an unexpected way.
We noted a gluten allergy when making our reservation, but this wasn’t relayed to our server, who also didn’t inquire about any dietary needs. After we informed her, she assured us the kitchen could accommodate. However, the first course—a crab cake—raised red flags, and sure enough, it wasn’t gluten-free. She kindly replaced it, but the substitute (carrots with a pimento cheese spread) was described inaccurately as “some sort of hummus,” which didn’t match at all and added to the confusion. Unfortunately, a couple of subsequent dishes also weren’t gluten-free, leading to more mix-ups.
Despite these hiccups, we couldn’t help but chuckle at the absurdity and still enjoyed our evening together. The manager was gracious and offered a complimentary appetizer for next time, which we appreciated but politely declined—we simply wanted to share this feedback constructively to help the team improve training and communication.
Overall, there’s potential here, and I hope they refine these aspects for future guests.

Great little spot. The ambiance of the place was amazing. Price point is a little high for the quality of the food. It was a good meal. The deconstruction beef Wellington was also not what I was expecting. Martini was perfect! Good date night spot.

After a business trip to Fort Worth concluded, on the way back home to Austin, I decided to stay the night in Waco. While there, I enjoyed a delicious meal in this hidden gem, 1424 Bistro, fit for a romantic evening for any couple.

The service was exceptional and timed perfectly. Anissa, the bartender was very professional with her recommendations, and I was immensely impressed by her knowledge of running any sector of a restaurant.

My selections for the evening included several new special appetizers and a Chef’s Special Entrée which paired perfectly with a Pinot Noir from 1424’s new Wine Menu.

I very much enjoyed the traditional Greek selections for appetizers which were the grape leaf wrapped Dolmades served with a delicious Tzatziki sauce and the Kasseri Cheese served flambé style at table. Also, I enjoyed several of the Fried cheese portions as a side. The Bone-in Pork chop was cooked perfectly and adequately balanced with the delicious serving of garlic mashed potatoes and mixed vegetable medley.

For dessert, I enjoyed a Vanilla Crème Brûlée that was fired perfectly to form a crisp and sweetened crust and garnished deliciously with blueberries and strawberries. To finish, the bartender and owner got creative on the spot with a Tiramisu Martini and let me try this as it is a newly developed bar drink.

The atmosphere was eclectic and definitely a vibe to be enjoyed by anyone who appreciates delicious food that is reasonably priced and expertly prepared with an attention to detail that was unexpected, but a delight to experience. Live music, as I understand, is an added bonus for an enjoyable night.

I must say, I will be bringing my girlfriend back to this perfect spot for a lovely evening away from the big city.

The best food you will taste in Waco. I had broccoli and scampi and I couldn’t believe broccoli can ever taste as great as it did. Service was mind blowing.
They also have a room for private events.
I cannot wait to be back to try more of their food.
