Update:
I’m adding this follow-up because when I initially posted my review the day after our visit, I was still extremely sick and not in a condition to fully explain
This place had been a childhood favorite of mine. I had been talking it up to my partner for months, telling her how it used to be my number one Giant Burger growing up. We had gone to several Giant Burger locations over the years, but this one always held a special place for me, so I was genuinely excited to finally bring her here and share that experience.
Unfortunately, it was a massive letdown from the moment we arrived.
Right away, I noticed a large mayo container sitting out that was visibly yellowed and discolored, which immediately raised concerns about food safety. At the same time, I had been on the phone with a friend who warned me that this location had gone downhill badly and mentioned prior issues with service and even a racially charged incident. My gut told me we should leave and go somewhere else.
I didn’t listen to that instinct. Food is food, and I love a good burger, so against better judgment, we stayed. That was a mistake.
The service was extremely short, cold, and off-putting. There was no warmth or care, just a rushed “what do you want and bye” attitude that didn’t inspire confidence in how the food was being handled. But again it’s a burger joint, what’s to be expected service wise.
We took our food home, and within hours both my partner and I became violently ill. This was not mild discomfort. It was the worst food poisoning either of us has ever experienced. We were both completely taken out, and almost had to go to the hospital.
It was genuinely upsetting because this place had meant something to me. What was once a go-to spot I trusted had clearly declined in both quality and care.
I would strongly recommend skipping this location entirely. If you’re craving a solid burger, go to Sparky’s in the Oakland Hills or Lana’s in downtown instead.
I really wish this experience had gone differently, but I won’t be returning.
