This place specializes in Sichuan style fish, boiled in spicy numbing sauces. There’s also a variety of stir fried veggies or meat dishes you can order. While I thought the flavors were really good, I was a little disappointed at how much actual protein came with the dishes. I expected more.
For instance the large fish pot wasn’t enough for two people. And the chicken stir fry we ordered was mostly bones, very little meat (photo attached)
Also tried two cold starters:
• Smashed Cucumber – crisp, garlicky, and refreshingly spicy; my favorite bite of the meal.
• Sichuan Chicken – tender slices with a gentle chili kick.
Prices feel more than fair for the portion size; the soup bowl was loaded with generous fish slices. Next time I’ll skip the extra dishes because one large soup is plenty for two.
If you’re craving comforting, authentic fish soup, Seven Fish Cuisine delivers—highly recommended!
They feature a very unique (at least in the Bay Area) style of Chinese food called Suan cai yu, fish soup with pickled vegetables. The flavors are numbing (Szechuan peppercorns), spicy, sour, and tangy…very flavorful and delicious! Our favorite dish lately has been the Litsea flavor soup: kind of a sweet and sour, tangy, and spicy! The fish is always tender, and with each soup you get to customize your additions (wood ear mushrooms, tofu, sweet potato glass noodles, celtuce, to name a few). Also the appetizers are so delicious…smashed cucumbers with raw garlic and chilis in a light vinegar sauce-so refreshing and healthy; fried chicken tenders-perfectly crispy and tender inside, and served with Szechuan peppercorn powder!
Lastly, everyone on the staff is very kind, friendly, and helpful…service is always top notch! Can’t recommend this place enough! Do yourself a favor if you haven’t yet tried Suan cai yu, and try it at Seven Fish!
