Came here on a Saturday night for dinner and waited a bit for the crowd to die down—totally worth it. The restaurant is beautiful and easily one of the nicest, most polished Chinese restaurants in Irvine. It’s super clean, spacious, and surprisingly quiet (no loud plate-clanging like you get at a lot of Chinese spots), which made the whole experience feel more upscale.
The food was delicious—Chinese fusion done really well. Portions are a bit smaller than a traditional Chinese restaurant, but everything we tried was flavorful and felt thoughtfully prepared. We started with the Imperial soup (their “fancy soup”) and it was rich, comforting, and really tasty. We also ordered the sliced chicken with chili oil (great heat and flavor), braised string beans (so good), and the braised pork ribs, which were also delicious. For dessert, my son got the peach gummy dessert—light, airy, refreshing, and not overly sweet.
Shoutout to our server, Yanny—she was friendly, thorough, and genuinely helpful. We had questions about a few dishes and she even went to the kitchen to ask the chef about ingredients, then came back with clear answers. That kind of service really stands out.
One thing I loved: ordering on the iPad. You can see the dish descriptions and prices upfront, and the food came out efficiently after we placed everything. It’s also a big plus compared to places like J Zhou in Tustin where the receipt can be hard to understand if everything is written in Chinese.
Overall: great service, great atmosphere, and really tasty food. I’d definitely recommend this place and will be back.

Jiang Nan is a Chinese fusion restaurant that recently opened inside the often busy Orange Tree Plaza located at the corner of Walnut Avenue and Jeffrey Road in Irvine. It has achieved “Michelin Recommended” status and blends “tradition with innovation, inheriting the rich culinary artistry of Chinese cuisine while infusing it with modern, stylish flavors, serving signature dishes like Peking Duck, Xiao Long Bao, and Grilled Fish.”

There were long waits when the restaurant first opened, so we did not visit until the crowds died down. Like most fusion restaurants, the restaurant offers an elegant atmosphere and presentation is everything as evidenced by how their dishes were plated. We tried a number of dishes and of the ones we tried, the Cumin Lamb on Sizzling Plate was probably my favorite and the Sauteed Tofu w/Crab Meat was the most exotic. My daughter enjoyed the Hand-Made Pork Soup Dumplings so much that we had to place a second order. The only miss was a rib dish we mistakenly ordered – portion size was small and it was not particularly flavorful.

Jiang Nan prides themselves on their commitment to quality, innovation, and exceptional service. I commend them on their service levels as they had plenty of wait staff working the night of our visit. I also wanted to give our server, Josie, a shoutout because she went above and beyond to provide top-notch service to enhance our dining experience. She was knowledgeable, helpful, easy to talk to, and she checked on us frequently. What more can a restaurant patron ask for?

This was my second visit to Jiang Nan Irvine, and the overall experience was once again very solid.

Starting with the food—everything was consistently well done.
The soup dumplings had thin wrappers with plenty of soup and were not greasy at all.
The Peking duck had crispy skin and firm, flavorful meat, very nicely balanced.
The duck soup really deserves a special mention. It’s one of the most substantial duck soups I’ve had—the entire duck frame is in the pot. The broth looks clear but is incredibly rich and flavorful. One sip and you can tell it’s made with real ingredients. Absolutely delicious.
️ We also ordered the Mao Xue Wang. While it doesn’t include duck blood or intestines, the portion of tripe is very generous, and overall it’s quite satisfying.

I also really like the interior design. It has a modern Jiangnan style with soft lighting and thoughtful details—elegant without being over the top. It works well for both group gatherings and family meals, and it’s very photo-friendly.

Service was smooth and comfortable as well. Coincidentally, both visits were taken care of by May, and she managed the pacing perfectly, making the whole dining experience very relaxed.

A quick tip for first-time visitors: parking in front of the plaza can be difficult, but there’s a large parking area behind the restaurant with plenty of spaces—many people don’t seem to know about it, and it makes things much easier.

Just went to Jiang Nan Irvine the second time! May’s service is absolutely the best, warm and entertaining (for both times!), which made us enjoying the overall dining experience despite that the food portion is generally on the smaller side (hope that this can be improved in the future). Will definitely come back because of May!

Came for a birthday dinner during their soft opening. The tablet menu with pictures for every dish made ordering easy. Flavorful unique dishes that weren’t overly sweet or salty. The boiled black fish and pickled mustard green stew was just the right amount of spice and flavor, the dongpo braised pork was flavorful and saucy with crunchy bamboo slices. Our server May was friendly and attentive providing great service.

Some of the very best Chinese food I’ve had, anywhere. A modern spin on Jiangnan cuisine, I enjoyed their refined takes on Chinese classics. This is not Chinese-American cuisine — think contemporary Shanghainese restaurant with an overseas outpost. I loved their crispy pumpkin and drunken chicken, but everything we ordered was impressive, down to the kaiweicai you’re given when sat down.

I came in with high expectations but left disappointed. Our group of seven ordered ten dishes, and none of them felt worth the price. The Beijing Duck ($108) was just okay. The highlights were the Dongpo Pork Belly and the Smoked Beef Ribs, though the pork belly portion was surprisingly small. The biggest letdown was the Boiled Black Fish Slice (酸菜鱼), which tasted like frozen black fish straight from the supermarket which I always buy, I feel I could make a better version at home. Restaurant was pretty empty on a Sunday at noon, with food like this paired with high prices, I honestly don’t know how long this restaurant can will remain competitive, I wish the owner best of luck!

This is our first time dining here today, and the overall experience was excellent—the food and service exceeded our expectations. The flavors lean more toward Sichuan cuisine, so we’re not sure why it’s named Jiangnan.
