My go-to dish here is definitely the quesabirria—it’s delicious every time. The restaurant also has a nice atmosphere with good prices and drink options, making it a great place for a casual date or a night out.
Overall, Taquería El Nacimiento is my top choice for a sit-down restaurant in Mexicantown. Highly recommend!
From the start, the service was off. I sat alone for about 8 minutes while two servers walked past me multiple times without offering a menu. Two men came in after me and were helped immediately. I don’t like pulling the race card, but it was hard not to ignore how differently I was treated, they had customers but they weren’t even busy.
My order came wrong (I asked for no onions), and while picking the onions out myself after I ate a few bites of rice and beans I noticed the baby roach in my rice. When I told the server, she didn’t even address me she only spoke to my friend who speaks Spanish, even though I was the one who found the roach.
They made us walk to the counter to speak to the manager, and he brushed it off with, “Things happen,” and, “I’m sure you didn’t eat one.” No apology. No concern.
Crazy part is the food wasn’t good to begin with :/ mushy rice, undercooked tortilla, and bland tacos. But the roach made it completely unacceptable. Between the poor service, the dismissive attitude, and the roach in my meal, I’m honestly disgusted and EXTREMELY disturbed and will not be returning.
I recently had the pleasure of dining at Taqueria El Nacimiento with friends, and it was hands-down one of the best Mexican meals I’ve had in Michigan. Located in Mexicantown near Detroit, this spot serves up super local, authentic Mexican flavors that you simply can’t find anywhere else around here.
From the crispy birria tacos to the flavorful chile verde, every dish was packed with bold, comforting spices and fresh ingredients. The refried beans and rice were the perfect sides, and the freshly made chips with a trio of house salsas were addictive. We also enjoyed their Micheladas and margaritas — refreshing and full of character, just like the food!
The portions are generous, the service is warm and welcoming, and the atmosphere is lively — perfect for gathering with friends or family. Whether you’re trying fried red snapper or a giant taco salad, everything feels homemade with love.
This gem is absolutely worth the drive. If you’re looking for real Mexican food beyond the usual Americanized fare, El Nacimiento is it. Can’t wait to go back!
⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️
Thinking it was a place I actually been before (my memory sucks, too) I slid on in.
Huge, well laid-out menu with offerings from breakfast to dinner & drinks afterwards.
Even before noon, on a rainy Tuesday, this place has about ten tables filled. It’s a very welcoming place, comfortable, music playing in the background where it should be, adding to the ambiance without impacting conversations.
Since it is Taco Tuesday, I ordered fish tacos on the lunch specials section.
Service is quick and polite. Efficient.
The food is very good. Big portions, well made & well presented. The fish was lightly fried with a nice bit of crunch most places don’t have.
