I’m updating my review from 4 stars to 5 after having eaten here regularly for three years now. The food is phenomenal and the people are courteous and responsive. House of India has become our go-to place for Indian food in this area.

My best friend and I got the buffet and I honestly could not name the dishes I tried but they were all delicious and hot with very little heat but lots of spices!! I would definitely recommend trying the buffet (11:30am-3pm) and I will be going back to try all kinds of dishes I saw on the menu!! Vinny was an absolutely wonderful server and host!!!

Delicious indian food and love the option for vegetarians on the menu. The waiter was awesome and quick with service. Mango Chicken and Mango Lassi both were delicious. Thank you so much!

The food at House of India is “Indian” in inspiration only. The ingredients are sparse, missing key components anyone would expect in Tandoori cuisine, and the resulting flavors are bland and the sauces watery. Instead of traditional ingredients, there are some odd replacements that further push these dishes away from a reasonable definition of what “Indian food” is supposed to be. Unfortunately, many ingredients also seem to be at the poorer quality end of the spectrum at this restaurant. Some details by example….

The service was awful. They even charged 25 cents for napkins at the washroom. They were serving drinking water from an open jar, even the jar was ask-upon service. The ambience was shady, flies were flying around. At the payment, they charged 3% on credit card, and asked to pay in cash to avoid this hike. The food was below average.

We had dinner and ordered goat kadai + gobi alu. Very mediocre food. They gave us complimentary gulab jamuns which were soggy… so eat at your own risk.

The food is okay, better than the service though… place is centrally located, so that’s nice, however, the place itself is very plain.

I remember during my childhood in Pakistan, when my grandmother ate something delicious, she said it was “cooked right”. And eating from House of India makes me say the same thing. Take the rice for example. Several times I’ve gone to “Indian” restaurants where the basmati rice was over done, the grains split, and in a lump. Here however the rice is as it should be– each grain separate, soft but whole and intact. I just ate poori also and it’s been decades since I’ve had poori. I’m stunned and so excited that Pittsfield got such an amazing place for desi food! 5 stars.
