Eating out in Smithville is so very limited. You have your choice of Mexican restaurants and then just a couple of American style restaurants. We used to go here because the food was decent, the servers very friendly and attentive. We recently had the worst food of our ‘eating out experiences in Smithville.’ We had one of the experienced waitresses take our order, but a young girl after that. The order was wrong and had to go back, she didn’t end up bringing out two items ordered, pretty poor service at best. Yes, they are busy, but she was younger than everyone else working and had no hustle in her! The food from both our meals was absolutely TERRIBLE! UNDERDONE fish, (yuck) overdone onion rings and fries, and the blandest grilled chicken I have ever eaten in my entire life. I am pretty certain that there wasn’t even salt or pepper on it!! What in the world has happened to this place? $30 we will never get back. A Southern style restaurant that cannot cook good chicken? I no longer recommend.

We stopped in for an early dinner. I had the Monterey Chicken and it was disappointing. It was melted cheese and bacon on a chicken breast with no flavor. But the dinner roll was tasty. The rest of my table seemed to enjoy their food though, especially the burgers.

I stopped for lunch and got the bacon burger, white beans, and fries with sweet tea for $12. The food was awesome. The burger literally dripped it was so juicy and the beans seemed home-made. For those that get their burgers well done you will know how rare that is. The wait staff could have been more attentive. I had to wave and call out to the server for my lunch partner to get desert and neither of us were offered drink refills. The restaurant was still lunch hour busy at 2:00. They have lunch line offerings as well for those in a rush. The men’s bathroom was embarrassingly dirty. I didn’t get to see the women’s as it stayed occupied the entire time I was there but I’m assuming it’s cleaner than the men’s. The dining room was neat and clean and looked recently repainted.

Was looking for something delicious to eat with my family, and came to the right place. I had the #1 burger of DeKalb County with a side of fries, and a Coca Cola to drink, I also had a cheese cake for dessert. The waitress who took my order was very helpful, and the building looked like a very nice yet small restaurant. The only thing I have to complain about is about how long it took for our food to arrive, but considering how good it was I could’ve waited longer. Everything on the menu was the most affordable I have seen for a restaurant anywhere in Smithville, for 5 very good food options it was only 60 dollars. Spectacular food, spectacular service, spectacular atmosphere, and spectacular prices. Expect to see me again.
EDIT: The food was really good so I came back, and this time with my girlfriend. This time I had a steak with mashed potatoes and green beans and water to drink. I had another great time and was happy to have someone else come with me.

We had never eaten here before but had heard it was good. We both got the special, fried catfish with 2 sides. I got fried green tomatoes and white beans, my mom got white beans and fries. I was honestly shocked when I tasted the white beans. You hardly ever order white beans in a restaurant anymore and find them seasoned! They tasted amazing! The tomatoes were delicious as well. The catfish was perfect and we both agreed that it was some of the best we’ve had. Our waitress, Faith, was really nice and super helpful with any questions we had. She checked on us several times but didn’t annoy us. We asked about dessert and she recommended the banana pudding hands down. She was right! It was delicious. On top of all of this, the price was only $22! And we got 3 pieces of fish, 3 hush puppies, I got 4 fried green tomatoes and a bowl of white beans! My mom got the same with fries in place of the tomatoes. Plus an order of banana pudding! Incredible!

We stopped in on vacation. We had a rental nearby. These ladies were on it. Service was top notch. The food!! KNOCKED it out of the park. We will definitely be back. Thanks for all your hard work!!

Sad to say not as expected. The not fresh half frozen fried squash that were floating in and tasted like old cooking oil couldn’t be finished the chairs were disgustingly dirty and the 12 year old staff that were in charge agreed after asking how was everything and I told her said “yep everyone thinks it’s gonna be fresh cause of the menu…. but it’s frozen” shrugged and that was that. Maybe we’ll visit again if I’m starving and can’t eat my foot!!

For a local restaurant, Kilgore’s provides good food, selection and pleasant environment. We had great service and the Catfish was Delish .
