We went there the day after Valentine’s Day and good thing we did because I asked the waiter how it was and he said it was BUSY. We had a 5:15pm reservation and arrived just the right time. I was able to find parking a few feet away. It was raining that day but only sprinkles. You have to get a reservation or you may be turned away. It was our first time so the waiter recommended a few dishes and we took his advice. We got the escargot for appetizers. It was good stuffed in a potato. Good parsley sauce. I had the venison and it was tender and delicious. I like the location too because it’s not busy at all outside, the place is surrounded by small shops and houses. It’s very intimate and cozy inside, a very eclectic place and kinda takes you back in time feeling. The waiter was very knowledgeable and accommodating. He answered all my questions. It’s definitely a great dinner date but lunch would be ok too. We would definitely come back and with friends .

Had a very lovely dinner at L’ardoise Bistro for my mother’s birthday. The food, atmosphere, and service were fantastic (especially the lamb!). So cozy, perfect for winter. Can’t wait to dine here again!

This food really is unmatched. The service was great and the atmosphere was cozy. It is working with a bit of a limited space, but they are so quick to service that you don’t even have time to notice. The portion are just right and the deserts aren’t too filling so definitely worth ordering some no matter how full you think you are.

Plus apparently the chef is the owner, so good sign of quality of food!

They have a weird curtain at the door that makes it seem like they are closed, but just ignore that.

Such a nice place, such nice ambience, such great foods.
This restaurant gives the feeling that you are in a restaurant in Paris! We really enjoyed our experience there.
There are variety of options for starters, main course and desserts.
I highly recommend the duck’s leg confit,, which is served with a delicious crispy sliced potatoes.
The hanger stake wad also a delice, served with a red wine reduction sauce served with fries. We ordered it medium rare, and it was so tender and juicy.
For the dessert, we had the special dessert, orange chocolate bread pudding. It was so delicious, and nice decorated.
Very nice and friendly staff!

It’s a nice place to have dinner with your partner. The atmosphere is very intimate, the place is small, actually, and the food seemed light and tasty. The wine selection was not huge, but what we have picked was good. Deserts were not too sweet and of the right size not to overfill

From the amazing ambience, intimacy of the place, service, staff, and the FOOD… everything was impeccably delicious!
Starting with the appetizers, main course, drinks, and desserts! Definitely adding this to one of our favorite places to dine!

This place has so much to be proud of and to show for. It’s beautiful tucked away in a residential neighborhood of San Francisco. Just walking there in the evening can give you a bit of a romantic feeling. The entrance is clever as an old invention to have a curtain on the inside of the door to prevent cold from entering the restaurant. That gives the guest a pleasant experience and nobody has to shiver regardless how close to the door you are sitting. The interior is welcoming and warm making you feel you are part of a community. The menu is short and to the point of being French . It’s your everyday French home cooking done well. The staff with their French accent is adding to the feeling of being away from home. We tried their flank steak, coq au vine and lamb . All making their own home run. To be clear this is not Michelin Star level of eating but it’s satisfying every taste bud and leaves you satisfied all around. The desserts were also divine and yes of course the wine selection is a great extension of their menu. Try their Red Sancerre , you will love it on your palette and it will bring out the various main courses even more.

Awesome food all around, but our favorite was the rack of lamb. The ravioles were a great starter, and we also really enjoyed the cook of the sea bass.

For dessert, I highly recommend their chocolate ‘cake’ covered in a berry puree (sorry, I can’t remember the actual name of this dish).

Everything was delicious, so I am convinced you couldn’t go wrong here.

TERRIBLE SERVICE : EXTREMELY SLOW AND RUDE, BLAMING THE GUESTS

I rarely leave negative reviews, but unfortunately this experience requires one.

A week before my birthday, I reserved a large dinner table at L’Ardoise. On the day of the reservation (2 pm) , I called to reconfirm and explained clearly that we would only have one hour for it. I asked to pre-order appetizers and drinks so everything would be ready at our reserved time (7:15 PM).

About an hour before arrival (6:15 pm) , I called again to place the appetizer order and once more confirmed that it was for the 7:15 reservation and that we needed the food ready upon arrival.

The restaurant accepted the advance order over the phone and did not request any deposit or prepayment, which normally indicates the order is confirmed and will be prepared. Everything was clearly discussed and agreed upon.

When we arrived, nothing was ready. By 7:20, 7:30, and even 7:40 PM, not only were the pre-ordered appetizers not served, but we were not even provided with drinks. Pouring wine and taking drink orders for a reserved birthday table with advance notice should not take 40 minutes ?!? During this time the server repeatedly pressured us to order bottles instead of glasses and delayed taking our actual drink orders further.

Because drinks were delayed and not served to everyone at the same time, we couldn’t even make one simple birthday toast. Instead of acknowledging the delay and trying to fix the situation professionally, the staff began pressuring our table. I calmly explained (aside of the table to a oud drama) multiple times that we had called ahead and the delay was not caused by us.

Then the manager approached our table and instead of apologizing started loudly asking why we were “not ordering main course” and “just sitting,” saying this so loud in front of other guests and drawing attention to us.

The tone and manner suggested to others that we were unwilling to order, even though we were waiting for the pre-ordered items.

It was not our mistake.

At 7:50 PM, after we finally managed to make one quick birthday toast and were cramming the appetizers just to make it to our next event at 8:15 PM (which the restaurant had been informed about in advance!), the OWNER CAME and started SHOUTING at the table.

Some dishes were acceptable, others disappointing untasty but the main issue was not even the tasteless food! It was the service and the way our group was treated!!

This disastrous unprofessional service completely ruined a once-a-year birthday celebration and based on how the situation was handled (one apology from the owner and one tiny dessert to a big group to sweeten our bitter experience would be just fine and normal at any other place of this level) – I’d avoid this rude business and spend money somewhere else !

Wonderful neighborhood bistro perfect for a romantic dinner for two or a friends night out. It’s a small place so make reservations! Our server was fantastic! Definitely recommend the Brussels sprout salad and the coq au vin.
