In 1995 founders Bruce Dean and Bob & Laurie Manley opened the first Black Bear Diner in Mt. Shasta, CA. Their mission was simple: create a fun and friendly atmosphere where the local community could enjoy huge portions of home-style cooking at a reasonable price. Today, we continue their mission at every Black Bear Diner across the country, as we passionately provide guests an outstanding experience. Our menu offers comfort food classics, and our entire menu is offered all day long. Whether you are craving pancakes at 8 pm or pot roast at 8 am – we’ve got something for everyone. This place is exactly what a great American diner should be. The moment you walk in, you get that comfortable, welcoming vibe — cozy seating, warm lighting, relaxed atmosphere, and a menu so big you’ll want to come back just to try more.
Food (real comfort food)
The menu has something for everyone:
• Breakfast: omelets, egg combos, pancakes/waffles/French toast, Benedicts, and hearty breakfast plates.
• Lunch & dinner: big juicy burgers, satisfying sandwiches, and classic home-style meals with comforting sides.
Everything is served hot, fresh, and flavorful, with generous portions that actually fill you up.

Today I walked in and was greeted promptly even with several customers already in the Restaurant. The Waiter Felipe greeted me and told me I could sit where I was comfortable. I appreciated that while running both the front bar as well as my table and hosting he still took the time to get my drink order right then and ask me how my morning was going. He gave me time to look at the menu and figure out what I wanted while enjoying my Mocha Iced Cold Brew( Very Tasty!). I went with the Bears choice and got 2 scrambled eggs, 2 pieces of Bacon with Blueberry Pancakes as well as adding on a 6oz Ranch Steak which I asked to be cooked medium rare. As I sat and waited for my food I noticed the decor and environment. The restaurant while busy was clean and comfortable with a log cabin feel. Once my food arrived I noticed that there was definite care taken with the plating and preciseness of my request. The eggs where cooked to a perfect soft scramble with crispy bacon and warm fresh made blueberry pancakes. The steak was a perfect medium rare and seasoned well with salt and pepper. I asked for A1 to go with my steak, but I definitely could have enjoyed the steak by itself as it was cooked to my exact preferences. I liked that the Salt and Pepper wasn’t overpowering and just allowed the natural steak flavor to come thru quite well. The only time I would say that I had to wait on anything was when I ran out of water, but I also drink alot of water while I eat and Felipe was very prompt when he did notice to quickly get me another glass. This was also while having 5 other customers at the bar area which was very impressive that he kept up as well as he did. When I come back I would love to have him as my waiter again. Overall great experience!!

My first experience at this diner which is a chain out of California was positive. I’ve eaten here twice and both times the food was decent. The service and wait staff were very good and the food was tasty. If you’re looking for a place to stop and have a decent meal while you’re on the road, try one of these diners at least the one here where we stopped was very good in the tonopah area. I’ve had both breakfast and dinner here. The breakfast was good and so was the dinner. If you’re looking for something to knock your socks off, this isn’t the place, but if you’re looking for something decent there reminds you of home cooked meal, then here you go.

Saturday evening, my wife and I came to to celebrate my wife’s Birthday. She had the omelet and I had the prime rib. She loved it, as usual. When I received my prime rib it was barely warm. The server took it back to the kitchen and when it came back it was only slightly warm and had shrunk. I will steer clear of the prime rib next time. This was highly unusual, because our food has always been great in the past.

Great experience compared to the one I had in Amarillo Texas that one I won’t go back to unfortunately because I absolutely love black bear . This one though more than made up for my previous night in Amarillo. Immediately greeted warmly by staff upon entering, order taken quickly . All staff was trying to assist , received to go order quickly and piping hot order was correct . All the girls working were super friendly and helpful made sure I was well taken care of . The food was great nicely presented even in a to go container! And this is why I love black bear it’s great food great people so thank you for keeping truck drivers well fed and feeling like a person and not a burden ! Definitely will be back to this location.

I was not happy with the food here at all. I had the steak, eggs and breakfast potatoes, it was not good at all. The biscuit was the best thing on my plate. Our waitress wasn’t bad. She had to take my plate back, but it wasn’t her fault. She was very apologetic and I appreciated that. I won’t visit this Black Diner location but I would probably try another one.

Really great place to eat Breakfast Lunch and Dinner. I had a fun time being here. The waiter was really nice and on point. The Kitchen Seems to be Very Well Coordinated. The Chef was directing the whole way. My food was some of the best I’ve had in a while. Salad was good and The Chicken Fried Stake Dinner Didn’t Disappoint. I also got the Huckleberry Lemonade and it was Delicious. Plus the Green beans to top it off and the Mash Potatoes with Gravy did not disappoint me at all. Have fun and enjoy
