It is what the other reviewers said. The flavor is there. I ordered the curry noodle and I can honestly taste the coconut milk and curry spices in the broth. Meat was tender and the toppings especially the diced pickles add to the savory flavor. Also ordered their papaya salad and it’s like the one I order in the west coast. Beware though that it can get spicy so order at your own risk.
Mango sticky rice could improve a little bit. The rice is not as chewy as I like; the sesame seeds were not there although their menu shows these should be.

The food was hot and tasty, the service was attentive and friendly. Best mango sticky rice ever! Samosas were top notch as well!

It is always wonderful to find a ‘hidden gem’ family business that is doing things the right way. This small, family-run spot has been open for less than a year, but the quality is already outstanding.
You can tell they use only the freshest ingredients in every dish. We had the Coconut Curry Chicken, which was easily the best I’ve ever had. We also tried the Pad Thai and the Stir-fry Egg Noodles (with chicken and beef); everything was incredibly flavorful and came out piping hot.
The staff was so friendly and made us feel right at home. They don’t serve beer or wine at the moment, but they mentioned they are hoping to in the near future. If you haven’t tried this establishment yet, I highly recommend it—and if you’ve been before, it’s definitely worth another visit!

Had the coconut curry noodle for lunch on Friday. Did not taste any coconut, but it was delicious. Tasted more like broth with noodles and braised chicken, with the extras on the side. Also had the mango sticky rice. It was delicious. Will definitely come again, but for dinner. (Not sure if they have a different menu for dinner).

We had a great experience at Roots! Our server sat us quickly, gave us menus/took our orders, and was incredibly attentive and kind throughout. We started with the tea leaf salad—so fresh and flavorful. My mother-in-law had the Thai chicken pho, and my husband and I both got the pad thai—everything was delicious. We finished with mango sticky rice, one of my favorites, and it did not disappoint. Great food and service all around!

I haven’t reviewed anything in awhile because nothing has grabbed my attention…until today! If you are looking for authentic, you have got to try Roots in New Bern. This place rocks!!!! This is a must try for anyone who likes Asian food!!!

Great food, along with prompt and friendly service! I had the special chicken curry, which was Burmese-style and delicious: tender chicken and great flavor. My wife had the pad Thai and Thai tea, which she enjoyed. Excited to have this new option in town!

We were disappointed. The flavor was okay on all 4 dishes. Spring rolls are surely NOT made in house. Nothing special about this place. Not sure how it got such good ratings. For better flavor and larger servings of Pho or Pad Thai, check out the Mon Asian Market
