I rarely write reviews, but after this visit it’s simply impossible to stay silent.

We came to this restaurant specifically for the steaks — and yes, to be fair, the steak was excellent. One of the best I’ve ever had. But everything else was such a disaster that any desire to ever come back disappeared instantly.

First of all, the atmosphere doesn’t match the price level at all. When a steak costs around $100 (and that’s without any sides!), the place feels more like a noisy sports bar — TVs showing football, random music — absolutely nothing close to a fine dining experience.

Second — the bill. Automatically added high gratuity plus a 3% fee for paying by card — none of which were mentioned in advance. Finding this out only at the moment of payment is, to put it mildly, unpleasant.

But the worst part started when their payment terminal kept declining my card. Instead of trying to help, the staff just shrugged. I had to explain myself that the card needs to be inserted, not swiped. Eventually a manager came over — and things only got worse.

Instead of offering a normal solution, we were given lectures about how they are “old-fashioned,” don’t accept Apple Pay, that “in New York you should carry cash,” a suggestion to leave valuables as collateral, and even a direct statement implying that there was simply no money on my card. It was so humiliating and rude that I was honestly speechless.

Later, the very same card worked perfectly elsewhere — so clearly the problem was on their side. And yes, when the payment finally went through on another card, the previously added gratuity magically disappeared from the bill, and the tone of communication instantly became overly polite and sweet. But after everything that had already happened, it just looked pitiful.

The impression of the evening was completely destroyed.
Yes, the food is good. But I haven’t experienced such disrespect toward guests in a restaurant with these prices in a very long time.

Note for management: We visited on December 26th at around 8:00 PM (evening service). The floor manager at the time was a woman with short dark hair, American, who personally handled our situation.

Classic NY steakhouse in the South Street Seaport- had the T-Bone which came sizzling and sliced and it was cooked to perfection with the toasted ends- lobster bisque was similarly spot on and abundant for a starter. Creamed spinach was also 10/10

Solid steakhouse tucked away on a side street in the Seaport. I thought the steak was very good and reasonably priced with nice chewy fries. The clams casino were a solid appetizer but the cream spinach was not great.

They do charge a CC fee which is always frustrating, especially at this price point

MarkJoseph is the best steakhouse in downtown Manhattan, in our opinion. This establishment has been around for close to 25 years and makes amazing steaks. I’ve had dinner here on three or four occasions over the years and always have had great experiences. Today, I stopped by for a glass of wine and a cappuccino while I was waiting for an appointment. The service at the restaurant was fantastic as usual. If you’re looking for a special steak dinner downtown, MarkJoseph is the place to visit!

I brought my championship softball team here to celebrate and Jenna and her team were amazing! We were a group of 26 hungry softball players looking to celebrate. From start to finish, they absolutely took care of us. Amazing service! So nice! And to top it off the food was delicious! I highly recommend for anyone looking to bring a big group to celebrate, you will not be disappointed. Go here! Thank you, Jenna! And we hope to see you next year when we win it all again!!

The bartender Mike is great. He is very friendly and helpful. Made many good recommendations for food. Also, great dirty martinis their fries are delicious and the steak sandwich which you can only order at the bar or lunch is fantastic. Also, I recommend the thick cut Canadian bacon. So good

MarkJoseph is a quality steakhouse in Lower Manhattan. We started with the thick cut bacon appetizer and it was very flavorful. We split the Porterhouse amongst the 3 of us and it was the perfect amount of food. The creamed spinach was good and the steak fries had a nice crisp to them. I’d definitely recommend an espresso or some sorbet after your meal.

This was a good dinner option. Service was fantastic. Atmosphere was great. A little off the main streets but tables were dressed for fine dining. Had the filet, mashed potatoes and asparagus. One bread roll provided – was good – really felt like a Hawaiian sweet roll though. Butter was too cold to spread. The steak was cooked correctly. The food was okay. Steak was a steak – nothing special. Mashed potatoes tasted like ones I make at home. A bit pricey for the overall taste. Was there for business travel, would not go back as there are lots of other steakhouses to try.

We went here for their restaurant week promotion. The only steak house offering a 14 oz cut of steak with no additional cost added to your tab. The sirloin steak was delicious and came with creamed spinach and mashed potatoes. Can’t really beat that on top of a free appetizer and a dessert. We added a bottle of wine recommended by the waiter which was fruity and sweet, fantastic. He told me to grab the steak and eat it like a caveman. I told him, eating at a steak house requires a certain etiquette, so he brought a cup full of hand wipes and said your paying… do whatever you want!

Mark Joseph is a quintessential location for a higher end steakhouse experience- I came here during restaurant week and dined on their 59 dollar menu.

For my appetizer I had the lobster bisque as was recommended- it had small chunks of lobster with a nice deep lobster flavor, it’s served with fresh black pepper.

For mains, I had the Sirloin Steak, it’s served on hotplates so be careful. I asked for medium rare but some of the steak pieces remain on the hot plate, so cooking times and doneness varied a bit, but was nevertheless very good.

The dessert was a mini brownie sundae, seemed pretty simple and nothing special.

Multiple servers came to prepare each course.
