After seeing the pictures of everyone else’s food I had to go.
Big Doug’s was super easy to find and the parking was easily accessible (even after I missed the first turn in). Once parked, we headed inside and were met with a smiling car who welcomed us into Big Doug’s, confirmed our party size (2), and immediately took us to our booth.
First off… kudos on the stellar service. I’m talking top tier welcome, pleasant greetings, and a warm closing. The young lady was AMAZING!
As I headed to my booth I was captivated by the size of Big Doug’s as this place is hugeeeeeeee. However, though it is huge, there is a warm, cozy atmosphere that reminds you of a mom and pop diner in a small town Hallmark film. LoL
Once seated, we were greeted by Haven and Haven made sure to continue with the stellar service that stayed at the door. I loveeeeeeeee Haven. She was so pleasant. Very warm, attentive to the needs of the table, and had a bubbly personality that was ideal for a Saturday morning interaction. Haven is the waitress you read about in reviews but never get to meet in real life… Well, I did. Ha!!!!!!
The menu fits the vibe and provides a variety of home cooked classics. Me being me, I decided on French Toast and Hot Links with a Sweet Tea…
Let’s talk food…
French Toast: Warm, crispy edges, chewy center, perfectly made, amazing flavor profile. I ordered one but now I know to order four next time because it was amazing. I’ll use all my carbs for the day on these.
Hot Links: I told Haven to tell the cook that I needed them dark like me and they understood the assignment. My hot links were crunchy on each side but meaty and juicy in the middle. Oh yes, these links were done right.
Sweet Tea: Listen… Two Words: More Please!!! It was so good I needed a cup to go… trust… if you know me (or my reviews) you know I don’t play about my sweet tea. Big Doug’s sweet tea can be put in a bottle and sold at the front, because I need four of these as well.
All in all, my experience at Big Doug’s was amazing. It lives up to the branding of “Fried, Tried, and Southern Certified!”
Ooh… I almost forgot… They have the cleanest and prettiest bathrooms this side of the Mississippi.
To the owner and management of Big Doug’s, thank you. You are appreciated. Your team represents the brand very well and the experience is top tier. #iApprove
The service is wonderful. The waitresses are polite, friendly, and make you feel right at home the minute you sit down. And the food… it is absolutely delicious. The portions are generous and homemade, just like the kind of cooking you remember from your mom’s or grandmother’s kitchen. Every bite feels like good old-fashioned comfort food made with love.
What really makes this place special are the owners, Mark and Pam Sullins. They are some of the most genuine, down-to-earth folks you’ll ever meet. They take time to speak to their customers and you’ll often see them helping serve tables or doing whatever needs to be done. You can truly tell they care about their restaurant and the people who walk through the door.
Places like this are hard to find these days. If you want great food, friendly faces, and a place that feels like home, BIG DOUG’s Place is a real treasure.
Breakfast this time, 2 biscuts with gravy and hot links. Wow!
Sabella was wonderful server and food was top notch. Bumped my score from 4 to 5.
Much-needed restaurant addition to Dallas. Some dishes have that comforting, “homemade” touch you don’t find everywhere. The fried chicken was crispy, flavorful, and perfectly cooked — same for the chicken strips. Several of the sides really hit the mark, while a couple could use a little more seasoning or flavor. Overall, a solid spot worth visiting and supporting.
Food was good but nothing felt stand-out. Biscuits had a crisp exterior and fluffy interior. Sausage patty was flavorful. Gravy and grits were standard. Eggs were an interesting texture.
Although I would be open to coming back it is not at the top of my list.
