The atmosphere was really inviting, except the bathroom seat needed to be changed. The owner came out to greet us which was really nice. Service was just ok, considering we were the only table. Decor was nice and the patio was nice. However the food was a major disappointment. First let me say the catfish was really good , the smoked cabbage was good. The brisket was a major disappointment . It was dried out and seemed like it was heated up in the microwave, not fresh at all. We both got the baked Mac and cheese since they were out of green beans. Unfortunately nothing was baked about it, once again I would guess it was microwaved. At first sight it looked like Velveta Mac and cheese , same thought after eating it. I got sweet tea to drink and was so surprised to find out it would cost a $1.00 more to get a refill considering the glass was half full of ice. I ordered a glass of water which I wouldn’t have ordered if I had paid attention to the menu cause we were charged 50cent a glass. It’s really a shame cause the place was cute but if I wanted a microwave dinner I could have raided my own refrigerator.

I am new to the poplar bluff area and today decided to try out this place. The staff were all welcoming, the building was neat and clean. BUT THE FOOD, hands down…the best soul food you can get in the bluff. Porkchops were seasoned and fried to Perfection! The cabbage made me want to slap my mama and the Mac and cheese was thanksgiving worthy!! If you got time and your looking for the best meal for a great price, this is the place.

The Kitchen is so good, I’ve eaten there twice today. I had catfish, greens, and Cajun corn for lunch and it was incredible. My cohorts had jerked chicken that was equally awesome. We also had a sample of a lasagna they were making and I enjoyed it so much, I got an order to go for supper. I wouldn’t typically think of a soul food kitchen as a place for lasagna, but it was fantastic! I can’t wait to go back and take a crowd with me! They also have open mike night on Fridays! Can’t wait to hear it.

On Saturday Oct 18, we reserved the restaurant for our matriarch’s 80th birthday. They provided smoked/grilled chicken, collard greens and cabbage with a fruit salad. It was amazing! The owners and staff were welcoming and even celebrated with us. The atmosphere was wonderful. The restaurant was clean and well presented. We enjoyed ourselves and will definitely be back to support this business. If you haven’t given them a try you are definitely missing out.

My wife and I stopped here on our way home and the food was delicious! I had the smoked brisket, mixed greens and sweet potatoes, they were all good! She had the jerk chicken with baked mac and smoked beans, her food was also great! We plan on coming here anytime we are passing through Poplar Bluff again.

Based on the wonderful reviews, we stopped in on our way back east from a cross country trip. The food was amazing and matched only by the incredible service! We ordered the brisket and baked beans and they were absolutely delicious. A big shout out to Lamesha who was so gracious and made us feel like family. We cannot say enough about The Kitchen BBQ and Soul and we look forward to visiting again next time we are passing through.

The owner and staff were friendly, professional and kind! The atmosphere was great and it was nice to have space that we could bring our pet on the outdoor patio. The one star review was about the food alone. There is no way the pound of brisket was even a pound before cooking- 4 or 5 ounces at best, it tasted only of heavy salt and it was cold inside meat upon first bite as if it had been microwaved. It was beautifully plated though. The sides were sweet potatoes and smoked baked beans. The sweet potatoes tasted as though were boiled to cook and then cinnamon/ground cloves were sprinkled on top. The beans were straight out of a can, not smoke and not baked- soupy, heavy coating on top of cinnamon/cloves and molasses or brown sugar added on top…everything seemed like it was microwaved including the pork nachos. Seriously pains me to leave an honest review of the food when the people are so nice.
