Came here on a Tuesday evening and the restaurant was busy. The restaurant was beautifully decorated with Christmas decorations. There’s two dining areas. We were seated outside of the main dining area. We made a reservation. The table was ready for us but there was no staff/hostess and the bartender was on the phone. We saw three staffs and all greeted us but none of them asked if we needed help. We had a party of 7 and everybody was there standing by the door waiting.
We ordered the appetizers first cause we were not ready for the entree. We were ready for the entree went the appetizers came but there were no staffs to take our orders. All the staffs were in the main dining room. We wanted swordfish, but no swordfish. We changed to branzino but the staff came back to tell us no branzino. The food was good. I understand it’s a busy night and it might take longer for food. Nobody came to check in on us as we dine.

The restaurant is located in the Bensonhurst section of Brooklyn and was established in 1991. They prepare Italian cuisine. Tables are available for customers to dine in with servers. Soup, salads , appetizers, pasta, sides, pizza, entrees, desserts and beverages are options. I ordered the pollo toscano which is grilled chicken breast with yellow and green grilled zucchini, asparagus and roasted peppers over spinach risotto with a balsamic glaze. The shrimp scampi is sautéed in garlic, white wine and lemon with risotto. The food was very good and well-prepared.

Everything was exceptional. The food was freshly made and delicious (definitely worth the wait which wasn’t long especially if you order some great appetizers), the portions are very good which makes the dishes satisfying and/or shareable, the servers were kind and attentive, and the atmosphere was wonderful, family-friendly with nice Italian music in the background. Pasquale was amazing and helped accommodate food intolerances. They can accommodate most dietary restrictions, including vegan! They have a small (but delicious) plant-based menu at their Brooklyn location. I really enjoyed it and I’m not vegan. If you’re interested in plant-based options, I’d recommend asking about them in advance in case they run out of certain ingredients. We were all very happy with our dishes, including the meat and plant-based ones. I really appreciate all of their efforts and want to thank them for making our day so special. I would highly recommend this restaurant, especially for special occasions!

This past weekend was my first time dining at Il Colosseo, and it’s safe to say I will be traveling to Brooklyn to eat here many more times! The food was AMAZING. I was with a large party and their service was absolutely impeccable. They tended to everyone’s needs and brought out the most delicious appetizers, desserts, and drinks. The salmon was so delicious and buttery. All of the wait staff were kind and attentive. With a large party, it’s easy to forget drinks or coffee here and there, but they managed any issues with ease. I don’t live near Brooklyn, but I would be more than happy to make the drive and come here again! It was such a great eating experience.

Nothing is consistent. I ordered a veal to go. What is this. I’ve been coming to this restaurant for years. I’ve ordered this specific dish many times and this never how it’s presented weather it’s to stay or to go. Disappointment. Otherwise the service is fantastic and the dishes themselves are excellent. Hopefully this is a one off. I’m happy to update my review in the future if this doesn’t repeat.

We hosted a gender reveal here for about 30 people, and it was absolutely wonderful. The food was amazing, the service was phenomenal, and the manager, Pasquale, was incredibly accommodating. We already dine here every few weeks, so choosing this space for our event felt like an easy decision and we’re so glad we did!

From the moment we walked in, we were greeted like family. The staff went above and beyond to make us feel welcome, attentive without hovering, warm without being over the top. You can tell they genuinely care about both the food and the people they serve. Every dish tasted like it came straight from a kitchen in Italy. The ingredients were fresh, the flavors perfectly balanced, and the portions generous without being excessive. You could taste the love and tradition in every bite. It’s rare to find a restaurant that nails both authenticity and hospitality like this place does. I left full, happy, and already planning my next visit.

A1 service. Plates were cleared quickly and our glasses always filled. Food was very good also. The charcuterie board was OK, I’ve had better. The main dishes were very good and on par with prices. This place is definitely worth a visit if you’re in the mood for Italian cuisine.

If you’re looking for an authentic slice of Brooklyn’s culinary history, this old-school Italian gem is the place to be. Walking in feels like stepping back in time, with its classic decor and warm, welcoming vibe that instantly makes you feel at home. The food? Absolutely incredible. Every dish is a testament to why this restaurant has stood the test of time.
From the rich, flavorful sauces to the perfectly al dente pasta, you can taste the love and tradition in every bite. And the pizza? It’s truly one of a kind—thin, crispy crust with toppings so fresh and perfectly balanced, you’ll be craving it long after the last slice. The flavors are bold, authentic, and unforgettable.
This is the kind of place where they know your name and remember your favorite order—a true neighborhood treasure. It’s no wonder they’ve been around for so many years. If you’re searching for great food with an old-school feel, this is your spot. Highly recommend! This isn’t an instagram hype spot. This is the real deal.
