Wood-fired pizzas, pasta & grills in a trendy Italian restaurant set in an art deco building.

Relaxed place. Excellent service. Great menu. We had 2 kids in our party and the waitress verbally told us the kids options as there was not a dedicated kids menu. There were 3 screens in the main dining room. Outdoor patio was closed but seemed like it would be lovely. All dishes were delicious! Portions were generous. Easily able to accommodate food allergies. Chocolate temptation dessert was a hit. Will come back for happy hour!

Dined at Blade 1936 on Wednesday, February 18, 2026. We decided to dine out last minute so we were not properly dressed. Arrived there past 8 pm, and it looked like their dinner rush hour had already passed. Nonetheless, we were seated and ordered food. We didn’t want to eat too much so we ordered main course, plus a glass of wine each.
We got our food, but still no utensils; hence, we asked for our utensils. Also we asked for another glass of water since e there were four of us. Services were a bit off, which was a bit disappointing because the food tasted good.

Talk about exceptional service. From the moment we arrived, the atmosphere was relaxing and beautifully inviting. Our actual server was fantastic & knowledgeable, and genuinely helpful in guiding us through the menu.
Thanks to his recommendations, we enjoyed a truly memorable meal.
What made the experience even more special was the kindness of a female server who wasn’t even assigned to our table. She noticed our little one was feeling uneasy and hungry, being so loud our toddler had tantrums like no other but without hesitation, she stepped in to comfort him with such warmth and grace. Her thoughtful gesture made a world of difference and showed a true heart for hospitality. The food arrived quickly, and every bite was full of incredible flavor. We really recommend this place 100% The food was absolutely delicious, with rich and vibrant flavors in every dish. This place is a gem in San Diego, and we can’t wait to return.

Went to dinner with friends here at Blade 1936. First time visit for all of us to the restaurant. Appetizer was the Calamari. I do not eat that but all others at our table really enjoyed it. I ordered the Meat-Lover pizza (well done). My date ordered the Bolognese. Other couple had Ravioli (with bee) & Fungi (with chicken).
All food was very good.
However, the meal delivered to me was a veal dish….no idea why though…I reckon the server made a mistake…maybe meat-lover pizza, crispy sounds like Veal?
So while all had their meal in front of them, they waited until my pizza came.
Again all food was good, would come again….
Bathroom was clean, but common area hand wash station trough was a bit of a mess.

First visit here. Foods are fantastic, servers are very kind. I guess it was the owner and came to ask how the foods are. It was 10 out of 10. Can’t be greater than this. My kids even liked the food here. I highly recommend if you visit oceanside.

A Memorable Culinary Experience at Blade 1936 – Oceanside’s Hidden Gem
From the moment we walked into Blade 1936, we were greeted with a warm, relaxed atmosphere that perfectly complements its coastal Oceanside location. Our evening began with a refreshing Aperol Spritz, setting the tone for what would be an exceptional meal.
For starters, we shared the grilled octopus salad, a dish that truly impressed us. The octopus was perfectly tender, complemented by a vibrant arrangement of greens and garnishes. Its presentation was stunning, and the flavor profile was equally delightful—tangy, and fresh.
A little insider tip: ask for the “Sean Special.” It’s not on the menu, but it’s absolutely worth it. This off-menu masterpiece features pappardelle pasta tossed in truffle oil with Italian sausage, mushrooms, and shrimp. Rich, hearty, and full of nostalgia, it’s the kind of dish that evokes the warmth of a cherished homemade meal from childhood. Truly unforgettable.
We concluded our meal with the lemon blueberry ricotta cheesecake—a light yet indulgent dessert. The flavors were well-balanced, with the tartness of the lemon and blueberries cutting through the creamy richness of the ricotta.
Throughout the evening, the staff was friendly and attentive, enhancing the overall dining experience. Blade 1936 offers not only incredible food but also a welcoming ambiance that invites you to linger and savor every bite.
Whether you’re a local or just passing through Oceanside, Blade 1936 is a must-visit. Just don’t forget to ask for that secret special!

This place is a little gem. Subdued. No outside signage, the name does not sound Italian, but Blade 1936 Is a wonderful Italian restaurant. Happy hour is a deal! Margarita pizza was fresh and light with a perfectly crisp but chewy thin crust. The pasta – Penne – was cooked perfectly, right in that sweet spot between Al dente to done. Tiramisu was exceptional!
Did I mention Antonio? Antonio provided excellent service with a smooth transition between every plate and every glass of wine.
The entire team from Hostess to Host, Servers and Bartenders were a pleasure to interact with. Class Act!

I don’t understand the hype. We came here on Valentine’s during a pre-fixe menu and were disappointed – the food was slow to come with quite a bit of time in between courses, and somehow when the main course finally arrived it was lukewarm, and the dessert I wanted among the few choices on the pre-fixe menu was apparently too frozen to even serve at the time. The manager did rounds to ask how things were and we gave him our honest feedback. He seemed sincerely sorry, admitted to being busier than they expected, and asked us to give them a second chance on a normal night assuring us that it would be better. Well, we just gave them a second chance and not much better unfortunately. we were waiting a while for someone to take our order. My girlfriend’s dish arrived a few minutes before mine did. The food was at least hot this time. My girlfriend’s pizza was good, but no better than any other woodfire pizza. I got the di mare pasta dish which was partly good, partly bad- e.g. the mussels were much better than most I’ve had, the calamari was much worse than most I’ve had. We overheard the waitress apologizing to another table for the kitchen being backed up. My girlfriend provided feedback to the hostess upon exit, and the hostess said sorry and that they were busy- very similar to the message we heard from the manager the first time. They really need to learn how to manage their “busy” nights better.
