Started with the Black Sesame Caesar Salad which was great like the sesame really did it for me here.
Next was the Lamb Skewer which was super tender and that gochujang was just pure heat like I could eat it with a spoon.
After that, the General Lee’s Fried Chicken which like damn General Tso keep one eye open at night cuz mmmmm. Okay the meat was a bit fatty but the sauce was so so so good.
Chopped Cheese Rice Cakes were so interesting. Very cheesy like much more cheese than beef but the rice cakes were extra chewy and fun.
Finally The Legendary Cheeseburger which was absolutely terrific in every way imaginable. Like I have not had a cheeseburger that good in a LONG time. Might even be one of my fav burgers ive ever had. Excellent char on the patties that the edges were even a bit crunchy like yes thats exactly how I want my burger. And the added kimchi was just perfect.
Had the Garlic Honey Butter Tots on the side with that and these were perfect too. So sweet and crunchy I loved those little things.
This tasting menu thing going on here really is such a great value like I’ll absolutely be bringing people here.
Pro tip, if you are going with 3 people, ordering all the items on the Classic fixed menu à la carte is cheaper! And we ordered 2 full burgers instead of the 1.5 we would have got on fixed menu.
However, we loved the fried rice!!! It definitely redeemed the meal as it was the superstar of our lunch. It was perfectly balanced in flavor, the many vegetables were cooked very well and the seasoning had us wanting more!
Service was excellent and establishment was busy yet aesthetically pleasing.
The rice cakes with beef and cheese were excellent.
Wish they carried more hot sauce options. Service was a bit off with appetizers before drinks and it was a very dark / bar type atmosphere.
Was worth the trip, but would not rush back / come back unless somebody was keen to try it.
That being said, kudos to the restaurant for the excellent smash burger but the lights and night made the ambience feel “interesting”
We ordered the 6-course Mixtape, which was an excellent way to experience the menu. The lamb skewers were tender, juicy, and nicely spiced. The General Lee’s fried chicken was a standout. Incredibly crunchy with tender meat, a sauce that balanced sweet heat beautifully, and peanuts for extra texture. The pickled daikon was a smart addition, cutting through the richness and spice perfectly.
The yuzu focaccia was memorable: sweet and tart candied rind, super-light whipped ricotta, and a subtle background heat from the chili oil that tied everything together. The chopped cheese rice cakes were another highlight, great chew from the rice cakes, a creamy meat sauce, and breadcrumbs that added just enough contrast so the dish never felt one-note.
We decided to supplement with the dry aged truffle burger, which was cooked exactly to our liking and incredibly tender. The mushrooms added an earthy umami depth that played really well with the beef, and the truffle sauce was present without being overpowering.
We also added Jae’s Chicken Bun, which was pretty damn amazing. Essentially a larger version of the General Lee’s chicken on a bun: same great crunch, nutty peanut notes, and a sauce that was sweet, spicy, and tangy. A bit of a carb overload, but absolutely worth it.
The final dish was the tater tots with garlic honey butter. We’re not usually big tater tot people, but these were solid. All the honey butter was pooled at the bottom, and we think tossing them would have helped. They were quite sweet and buttery and could have used just a touch more salt, though that’s only noticeable because every other dish was so well balanced!
The vibe at Nowon is lively while still feeling warm and intimate. We only had Diet Coke and lemonade, but when Ashley found out it was our anniversary, she offered us a glass of champagne (alcoholic or non-alcoholic) which was such a thoughtful touch, especially since she seemed to notice we weren’t drinking.
The entire staff was warm and welcoming, and the service really elevated the evening. Overall, it was a wonderful first visit and a great night out. We’ll absolutely be back!
We ordered the Chopped Cheese Rice Cakes, The Legendary Cheeseburger, and the Garlic Honey Butter Tots, and everything was absolutely delicious 🙂 ❤️Especially Garlic Honey Butter Tots!!!!!!!
The cheeseburger and garlic honey butter tots were such generous portions that we took leftovers to go and they were still so good even after they cooled down ❤️
We’ll definitely be back to try more items on the menu next time >_<
We ordered Soju flights (infused and classic) and Got the tasting menu. Seoul night and lychee were our top two. But in general I’ve fallen in love with soju and writing this reminds me I need to find where I can get it locally!
Caesar salad- really good flavor and unique twist on a classic. The anchovies are either hit or miss. I loved them, never would i ever have thought a candied anchovy could be so good. My friend didn’t like them, said it was too fishy.
Lamb skewer- 3/5 moist overall, good flavor. We were split in opinion. I enjoyed it, my friend hated it.
Chopped cheese pasta- 2/5. Sauce and beef had really good flavor. Couldn’t get with the “noodles” they were too dense for me.
Fried chicken- 4/5 good crunch and flavor, solid Korean fried chicken.
Cheeseburger 4.5
Honey garlic tots 3/5 good flavor just very oily. I assume from being fried and doused in butter, which just made it too heavy to finsh more than a few.
Highly recommend. Good service, they work good together as a team. Praying for great success so they can expand. the close proximity of patrons was the only downfall.
