Dave and LaVerne’s Modern Diner and Bar opened its doors in January 2025.
Our name is a tribute to our president and co-founders parents, who were raised in an era where entertaining and hospitality were a large part of the culture. To highlight this, our decor is a combination of classic 1950’s diner, mid-century modern, and industrial design.
Dave and LaVerne’s culinary concept is that of quality scratch cooking, while providing value on each plate. Featuring typical offerings from your beloved classic diner but elevated using modern technique and attention to detail. We pride ourselves on delivering the approachable classic comfort foods you would expect but providing them at a standard above.

My mom had heard some good things about this place so when we were in the area we had to give it a try! At first we were hesitant pulling up at lunch time. Thinking it would be busy. The service was great, very welcoming, very clean restaurant! When we got there we got our orders in. (Caramel milkshake was 10/10), ordered our food and it came out in I swear 10 minutes.. and it was so good. My mom and I actually split it and they offered to split the entire two meals !!! It was awesome. Such great service. Will forsure be back!

This diner is fantastic. Everything we ate was delicious (shoutout to the Brussels sprouts starter in particular as I forgot to take a photo) and the throw back to old school diners was adorable. My friend is a local and recommends making reservations. It was busy. Seemed relatively wheelchair accessible. Can’t remember if they had automatic doors, but it was spacious and bathrooms on the main floor.

What a fantastic restaurant to go to!
Set in a 1950’s dinners settling complete with TV’s playing shows such as Dukes of Hazard and of course even the TV’s are cladded to look like 1950’s TV’s.
Servers are very attentive and seem truly happy to be there. Even manager/supervisor(s) were seen helping clear tables!
Drinks and apps were so good. We had the Bussel Sprouts app and highly recommend it.
The Ruben sandwich platter and Cob Salad were amazing and very filling.
We will definitely be back!
Make sure to make a reservation, it’s a busy place, for good reason!!

Would have been 5 stars but there was poor communication between hostess and server and our table was forgotten. After waiting for 10-15 minutes, I had to go up to the hostess post and let them know we hadn’t been served.
The server did apologize for our forgotten table. Other than that, the food, drinks & atmosphere was great!
Our favourite was the crispy Brussels sprouts with whipped feta.

Lunch time for the four of us on a Saturday. We arrived around 1:15. Had to wait about 10 minutes for a table, another 15 for waitress to take our order and another 45 for our food. Club sandwich was enjoyed, salad was enjoyed, Mac n cheese flavourless, fish breading was great but fish inside somewhat mushy, greasy n Luke warm. It may have sat on counter in kitchen for a while. Fries are the best. Coke had barely any fizz. FOod is overpriced. If it had all arrived hot, in half the time, it would have been enjoyed a lot more.

We went here a few weeks ago for my bday dinner and I highly recommend this restaurant! The decor is exactly what you expect for a diner and it was very clean inside. The staff had sang happy bday to me and gifted a huge brownie with ice cream. Staff were genuinely nice. Their servings were huge. The Cajun Arancini was tasty and the Prime Rib Burger was perfectly seasoned and the dip made it better. The bacon cheese fries were also a favourite. Can’t wait to go back and try more dishes.

What a great place to eat! Food and service was amazing. Loved my burger. Fresh ingredients, outstanding bun, the smash patty was perfect, and the tomato, for Winnipeg in January was quite good. The hand cut fries are some of the best. Happy Hour menu and prices look outstanding. Will return for sure. Thanks to Mackenzie for her great service!

Yah it’s alright. Food was okay. Venue’s unique look and the quality of the serving staff are its strong qualities. Ingredient quality of the dishes-to-value seems a bit mismatched and pricey, but only when compared to other venues within the same price range. However, gotta consider there are not a lot of options in this area either – so it is what it is. Patio was decent as well.
Have visited a few more times recently – inside is a great atmosphere. Reuben and chicken dishes are pretty good. Staff are friendly and on point.

Now this was nice. Had the 2pm happy hour burger, and oh, what a burger it was. The patty was excellent, and the toppings fresh. The fries were FANTASTIC. Did NOT need ketchup whatsoever (personally the highest praise I can give a fry). I also had a soup that was super delicious and PACKED with meat.
