It’s been quite a few years since I’ve eaten at a V&S. It was definitely in the rotation years ago when I was in the area. The sandwiches are still pretty good. It just seemed like the place could use a little updating.

Consistently the best sandwiches. We compared from all philly areas and while great cheesesteaks are to be found, V&S remain the best for flavor, quality and cost. After two plus weeks of barely eating, down with FluA, when my husband brought me back from my second trip from the ED of our local hospital for breathing treatments and fluids, he asked what I wanted for dinner. Hands down! V&S!! Shillington.

Ordered an order of their fryer clucks didnt get sauce order a small buffalo chicken cheese steak and get a half of loaf of bread with a seasoning of buffalo chicken the one on penn ave is so much better than the lancaster ave one

I used to live in Reading and always liked V&S. I stopped in after several years and immediately noticed the rolls tasted different, and not in a good way. The sandwiches had decent size, but those rolls are killing the experience. Please go back to what you used to have. 3 stars for still being way better than Subway.

My husband order dinner last night and brought it home. We order dinner once a month from this location.
We ordered 3 sandwiches and sides, one of the sandwiches was made incorrectly. We ordered an Italian and a homeland Italian was given to us. Do NOT like it.
The manager Sam seemed to think that we ordered it incorrectly. He didn’t seem to care about our issues so I told him that we would not be coming back to his location.
Sam said that he has the best value for our money. If you gave us the incorrect sandwich we didn’t get a good value!

My wife and I and our kids stopped in the other night. I got a small Italian hoagie she got a cup of meatballs and he got a cheeseburger. The Italian hoagie was beyond salty and I got sick from it that night. The meatballs were sweet and taste it like they were from Wawa there’s no way they’re homemade and the wife got an upset stomach from them. Our son didn’t complain about the cheeseburger at all so I guess that’s a good thing.

Most recent Health Inspection report: On January 8, 2026, V & S Sandwich Shop, located at 1621 Lancaster Avenue, Reading, was inspected and found with the following violation: Food contact surface of the can opener is not smooth and easily cleanable. Observed the can opener blade to have a chip. Observed six plastic lids used for prep containers to be broken. Corrected. Freezer door handles on the back 2-door freezer observed with a buildup of old food residue. Food facility inspection indicates evidence of rodents/insect activity in basement areas. No live activity was observed. Firm has a pest control program. Plumbing system not maintained in good repair – observed leaking at the handwash sink at the front service line.

Ordered a chicken cheese steak and meatball sandwich from the Lancaster avenue restaurant. Got home and both of them had NO sauce. I had to add my own spaghetti sauce so they wouldn’t be so dry. And when I took a bit out of my meatball sandwich it was spicy. Like it had hot pepper or hot sauce on it. Had to give it to my boyfriend. What happened to this sandwich shop? They used to be so good. So sorry not going back…

Chessesteak was horrible, half the sandwich didn’t have meat and the meat was burnt. This is the 2nd time its been like this in a month. Mostly everyone’s sandwiches for our lunch were sloppy and not appetizing.
