I visited Richmond to see some family and they recommend a must go to. This was some of the best food I’ve enjoyed in Richmond the portions are plentiful especially seeing as I got smalls of everything except for the oxtails I had to grab a large for that. The flavors are authentic my only ask is to include some spice especially for the jerk. It’s not quite like going to Jamaica or even DC or NY but it is a solid pick with amazing prices. Small curry chicken is like 9 bucks can’t miss with that.

Out of 5 I’d give

Oxtail 4 (portions alone boost the rating)
Island fried chicken 4
Curry goat 3.5
Curry chicken 4.5
Mac and cheese 5
Cabbage 4
Rice and peas 3.5
Jerk wings 4.5
Carrot cake 3 (don’t think it’s made in house go for the rum cake instead)
Fruit punch 20 (amazing even better with rum)

Overall I would recommend checking out M&F Jamaican.

First I’d like to start by saying I didn’t order from here and never will after seeing the experience my good sis had with this restaurant, to call this food Jamaican cuisine is an insult to a whole culture, if anything ever was cultural appropriation this would top the list, she order the jerk chicken with rice and peas and a side of mac and cheese(I’ll include pictures so you can see for yourself) never in my life have I ever seen 1) jerk sauce that colour and 2) jerk chicken drenched in sauce to that extent. I can understand how some people might enjoy this but please for the love of God this isn’t nor will it ever be Jamaican cuisine. Lastly I’ll say do better you have an obligation to the public and the culture who’s food you’re selling to hold yourselves to higher standard.

BEST JAMAICAN FOOD IN RVA!!!
I’ve been wanting to try M&F Jamaican for SO LONG, and somehow catch them when they’re closed every time. Well, yesterday I finally got to try their Curry Goat with rice & peas, and plantain, and let me assure you it was well worth the wait! It was SO GOOD!! And, MOIST!! The portion was perfect (it really could make 2 meals), the pieces of meat were big & falling off the bone, the flavoring was , the amount of gravy was just right. I’m really considering going back today for ROUND 2!!!

Food was ok. I had the oxtail and white rice. I definitely had better. The oxtail was bony and for the price of 22.00, I should have had more than 3 meat. I ordered a Mai tai and got something else which was ok since the drink was good, however being flirted on and not answering a simple question like my age was when this establishment lost my vote and their professionalism. Do better and serve your customers instead on pushing in to their business.

They dead wrong for serving burnt patties. I was looking forward to it. But the family really enjoyed the curry goat, as well as the peppered steak. They are heavy handed, the small size is more than enough food and the prices are very fair.

My girls and I dined at M&F Jamaican Restaurant on Saturday, September 28, 2024. We arrived right at noon. They were friendly and very welcoming. We ordered Chicken and Beef Patties, Plantains, Oxtails. Rice, cabbage, and Stewed chicken. The chicken, beef patties, and plantains were delicious. The Oxtails were good but was void of that Jamaican flavor. The servings were very large. Stewed chicken was good. It’s a nice spot. The food is good but could be more seasoned. Great place to dine it’s like going to Sunday dinner. . ❤️

We tried this restaurant on a Sunday. It’s a really nice spot with friendly staff. We ordered the jerk chicken, a combo plate with curry goat and island fried chicken and oxtail.

The jerk is moist and tender with a little heat. I like spicy but my stomach doesn’t and I was fine trying it. The goat fell off the bone. The Island fried chicken was very tasty. I’ve never had Island fried chicken before and it was a pleasant surprise. The sauce tasted like a tomato and pineapple mixture but I truly can’t describe it. It was good! The oxtail were tender as well. I have had better but these were still good.

They are not afraid to give you sauce like some others. I had no trouble smothering my peas and rice.

I also had a slice of the pineapple coconut cake. I wasn’t a fan. The icing was too sweet for my comfort and I think the cake had almond extract which I am not a fan of. The cake itself was moist. It would take me days to bring my glucose levels back to normal after eating the huge slice they give.

You can sit inside or outside and they do sell alcoholic beverages as well. I think they should have some music playing to boost the atmosphere.

All in all, I could see this as my go to Jamaican cuisine spot for now.
