Dependable, reliable, consistent. The food here is GOOD! Some food items are locally sourced which I greatly appreciate. The service is always fantastic. And they actually have REAL maple syrup, you just have to ask for it.

Visited for the first time today and it was great! The special cinnamon bun pancake was perfection. Crispy on the outside, fluffy on the inside, amazing flavors. The sausage side was nice and crispy. And the service was sooo friendly, they treated me like they’d known me for years. Really great!!

We stopped here on our way home from NYC for a quick lunch. We didn’t want standard fast food fare and so went a smidge out of our way…but it was worth it. I am having the Savory Oatmeal and my husband the Grilled Cheese with bacon & tomato. The oatmeal is unlike any I’ve ever had before and it will inspire how I serve oatmeal at home now…the green mint tea is also a winner!

My daughter had a hankering for a good BLT and The State Cafe was recommended to us from a friend. We weren’t let down. The sourdough bread was perfectly toasted and the bacon was crispy, but not overcooked. I had a very standard breakfast–I ordered one scrambled egg with home fries, sourdough toast, and two sausage patties–but there was nothing standard about it. From the house-made jelly, to my coffee cup never once reaching below halfway, to the friendly and attentive service, this meal was perfectly relaxing and delicious.
At the end of our meal, we discovered the host, Bill, was the co-owner and our server, Coreen, was the other co-owner–they’re a husband and wife team! Bill and Coreen were so pleasant, and Bill answered all of our questions about the history of the place. As if our lunch couldn’t have been any better, Bill asked if I wanted a to-go cup of coffee as my last refill. Also, they serve Homestead Coffee Roasters from down the road in Upper Black Eddy, which is delicious and very much a cut above your standard diner coffee. The food was delicious, and Bill’s kindness was infectious.

First time at “THE STATE CAFE & GRILL”
We had Breakfast and it Hit the Spot
food was Delicious. That Blueberry syrup was Goooooood. Service and staff was good, all were nice and friendly as well as the owner.. My only complaint is that they have small cups for OJ, and, I LOVE MY OJ ♂️ haha other than that, We will be back to try the lunch menu.

The food was delicious !! We had the veggie frittata, the banana bread French toast, the breakfast quesadilla and everything was amazing !! Everything was fresh and homemade. Even though they were short staff, we had to wait around 20-30 minutes before having a table but we had an amazing time and service, thanks to Carrie, our waitress !!

Perfect breakfast spot! Coffee is locally sourced and delicious. We had an omelette and huevos rancheros and each were exactly what we were looking for on a Sunday morning. Also definitely get a side of the homemade cornbread!! Service was excellent, everyone was really kind and the aesthetic of the place is awesome.
