This food truck has been a pillar in my family’s history. They have been in the same location since the 70’s… I moved to VA in 2020 and one of things I’ve missed the most is this place. JJ’s Hot Dogs is a true gem of a hot dog truck stand. It is very easily found, being located on Bloomfield Avenue, just east of Branch Brook Park, and has been at its current location for decades. Besides coming by car, one can readily get there by mass transit, via the Newark Light Rail (one long block from the Bloomfield Avenue Station), and by bus routes 11, 28, 29, and 72.
The hot dogs here are of top quality, and the toppings/and offerings are quite good. I came by very late in the day recently, and enjoyed both a chili dog and an onion and sweet peppers dog. The chili, despite being late in the day and rather cooked over, still had a great kick to it, rather than the sometimes over sweetened chili one gets elsewhere. The prices are very economical compared to other establishments, and the server was a remarkably pleasant and engaging person, making what most people would categorize as “just a hot dog truck”, a most enjoyable experience that bears repeat patronage most definitely.

Hidden gem. They’re super friendly and super clean and super nice. They have some fantastic combinations of items to go on hot dogs. At first you might not think it but it’s worth a try. Well worth the trip.

Pretty good hot dog food truck located over in Newark. I ordered a chilli, cheese and Doritos hot dog. It was spicy but not overwhelming and all the different toppings worked well with the hotdog flavor wise. This truck is definitely worth a visit if you are a hotdog fan

Back again on a rainy January day. Steam was swirling and the dogs taste great, as always! 2 dogs with mustard and saurkraut and a soda for 6$ Thanks JJ!
The hotdog is so hot that you have to switch hands walking back to your car. After the first bite you exhale steam like you are drinking soup. This is exactly what a Jersey Dog should be. The guy that runs this is very good at his job and he speaks many languages. I believe JJs is also on Uber Eats. Try the Spicy Sauce. It will make your head sweat just a tad. Thank you !

JJ‘s hotdog truck is a Newark area institution. I’ve been going to this truck for far longer than I’m willing to admit without giving away my exact age. But let’s say it’s been a quarter of a century. And what I can tell you is, their dogs are good, awesome toppings choices if you wanna pimp out your glizzy. The service is spot on too. If you live in and around Newark and haven’t been to JJ’s, you might be a tourist.
