The workers were amazing! The service was fast and the food was good. Shout out to the black woman who brought out the food. I don’t know if she owned the place but she ran it like it was her business.
We ordered the catfish, Mac and cheese (Loved !), wings, dressing(a little dry needed more gravy), cabbage (sweet tasting), black eyed peas (did not like), collard greens, red velvet cake, yams (not yamming),

Service was A1, I recommend. Next time I’ll try other menu items but overall a good experience.

Had the 2pc boneless chicken breast plate (smothered) with greens, black eye peas, and dressing. Thoroughly enjoyed the greens and chicken. The dressing was a bit blander than I expected, but a pinch of salt fixed it. The peas were decent. Nothing to write home about, but definitely serviceable. Overall, I would return. Side note: The pork chops (not pictured) are elite!

Looked up black owned restaurants and this treasure spot popped up. This is amazing legit, true blue soul food. My mother n law is the best to ever do it, but Ms Teresa Jackson is up there with her. The baked chicken is perfectly seasoned, greens, cornbread dressing, Mac n cheese and candied yams make the entire meal better than great. I felt I was at thanksgiving with family.

I flew in to Alabama this weekend as I was attending the homecoming of Alabama State University. I heard so much about this place and I was not leaving Alabama without eating there. It was very crowded in the small restaurant but when I received my food I saw why!! The food is delicious. I had catfish nuggets, Turkey wings, black eyed peas, dressing, Mac & cheese, pound cake and lemonade. Everything was good. The black eyed peas where okay but a little sweet for me. That didn’t stop me from enjoying all my food. The pound cake will make you start dancing while eating. I bit into it & it taste just likey dear Grandmother used to make. I will definitely be back every time I visit Alabama.

I don’t like to leave bad reviews but I think the restaurant needs to see this and take some constructive criticism. We decided to choose this soul restaurant over the restaurants that were in close proximity because we thought it was more southern home cooked. Wrong!
I ordered the oxtail with rice, collard greens, dressing, and Mac and cheese. The oxtail was grey. They were tender but no flavor! Not much gravy! The rice was minute rice!! I can taste the difference!!! The gravy on the dressing was package gravy. I can taste the dressing. The collard greens were bitter with too much vinegar. Mac and cheese tasted like Popeyes Mac and cheese.

My husband purchased the wings with hot/honey sauce. We never received the fried okra. The wings had no taste and no spice! The sweet potato pie was excellent! The cornbread was good! Customer service was excellent!! Location is near a historic location downtown.

I’m from South Carolina and I’m used to soul food! Please do better!

This place is so great! It’s a nice little hole in the wall with amazing food. The chicken and oxtails were both flavorful and juicy. The pecan pie was absolutely perfect, sweet and tasty. The sides were also really good. 10/10, would definitely come again.

A visit to the deep South practically obligates you to try some soul food and JW Beverette’s Soul Food is the place to go. A small neighborhood venue serving the locals like family. Staff, including the owner, treat you like family, moving with ease from kitchen to food served to go or at a table, the mac n cheese, candied yams and deep fried pork chops as well as the chicken are must tries, eat in, take it or delivery makes this an easy favorite to add to your dining options

Ridiculously good food. We were visiting Mongomery for the day and wanted to eat somewhere local. The food tastes homemade because it is! The owner came out of the kitchen, where she was cooking, once our food came out and sat to chat with us for a while. I have never had fried chicken breast, but my oldest 2 children ordered it and LOVED it, and it was juicy. My neice doesn’t like vegetables but devoured her sides. Even the fruit punch and lemonade taste homemade.

Ate here after my best friend suggested it for lunch. Nice restaurant and very friendly staff. We had the baked and smothered pork chops. The chops were very seasoned. The sides were dressing, collard greens, Mac and cheese, and okra. All were good. Very good fruit punch and my best friend said that the sweet tea was great. The restaurant was also clean. Nice place to eat located in a small strip mall and right across from Alabama State University. If you want home cooked style food, try this place.
