Ms. Sandra is one of the sweetest ladies I’ve met, wants nothing more than to please you and puts her heart and soul into this little restaurant. As a side note, the seafood salad is absolutely fantastic! Cannot recommend this hidden gem enough.

Modest place – GREAT TASTE!
Absolutely great! Dave and his mom are carrying his father’s legacy with a lot of pride and great customer service and, yes, great food! I had scallops and a humongous fillet of whiting and the wife had shrimp and her own humongous fillet of whiting, both with yellow rice for $35 served up with a lot of old school love.
They got it going on. ✨️ ✨️

Incredible fried shrimp and perfectly seasoned golden rice for such a good deal. In and out in less than 10 minutes with one of the best meals we’ve had in Charleston. No frills, but friendly service and killer food!

Came here with a friend to avoid the more posh atmosphere of other places nearby. Dave’s didn’t miss a beat. As soon as I walked in the door the aroma and friendly chatter coming from the staff and customers I knew the food was gonna be amazing. We got the seafood platter and ate it all on the back our car. 10/10 for providing us with authenticity and good food.

I’ve been a frequent customer at Dave’s Carryout for a long time and have always loved the food. But the last couple of times I’ve been, I’ve left feeling disrespected and uncomfortable.
For instance, today I came in around 1:40 PM. There was food clearly on the stove, and I watched Miss Sandra make plates for other customers using it. But when I tried to order, she told me she wasn’t serving anything from the stove and that I could only get fried food. I didn’t even want meat—just a veggie plate. She also said things under her breath while taking my order, which felt unnecessary and rude.
What hurts most is that I’ve always been nothing but respectful. That’s how I was raised by my elders and ancestors—to treat people right and not disrespect others. I’ve never done anything to deserve being treated that way.
I tell everyone how good the food is here, but after the repeated disrespect, I can’t continue to support or recommend this place. Customers deserve to be treated with basic kindness and fairness.

Everything was cooked to perfection and absolutely delicious! I will be dreaming about the fried shrimp very fresh and tender. Hard working women producing simple but wonderful food for their neighborhood!

Wanted to hit this place up before leaving Charleston and so glad I did. It’s truly nothing fancy about this place, but what matters most is that the food is fire. And fire it was! I ordered the Seafood Platter ($19.50), which came with fried shrimp & fish, scallops, and devil crab). It was all served up with fries and it was such a satisfying meal. The fish was perfectly fried and the shrimp was big! Never had devil crab before, but I liked it. It was crab cake-ish in terms of texture and taste, but wholly unique as well. This was a black-owned restaurant that I was excited to support and I can see why it’s remained a popular spot in the city for good seafood.
