Review of Kafi BBQ in Irving, Texas – Facebook
Reviews
I stopped by Kafi BBQ today to pick up their free iftar to-go box, and I was honestly very impressed. First of all, it was a very kind gesture for the community during Ramadan. May they be rewarded for feeding people.
The food was excellent. The wagyu beef was incredibly flavorful and juicy—even the flat cut was tender and moist. Both sausages were delicious as well, with a nice crunch on the outside and a subtle smoky flavor that made them stand out.
Everything tasted fresh and well prepared. Great food, generous portion and a wonderful community initiative. I truly appreciate what they are doing and will definitely be coming back.
Highly recommended!
Update:
I also noticed some comments from people saying they waited 2+ hours and the food ran out. Kafi BBQ had already mentioned that they would be serving 500 boxes, so when I got in line I tried to roughly estimate my position to make sure I was within that number. I counted approximately where I was in line and realized I was around 170–180, so I knew I was safe to stay. If I had been somewhere beyond the first ~400 people, I personally would have left to avoid waiting too long while fasting.
The service was just as impressive. The staff was welcoming, attentive, and genuinely kind. They made sure everything was right and created an atmosphere that felt warm and inviting. The energy inside the restaurant is lively in a good way. It feels like a place where people come together to enjoy great food and good company.
This is not just another BBQ spot. It stands out because of the quality, the flavor, and the respect they show through their cooking and hospitality. I will definitely be coming back and recommending it to others.
Every plate feels carefully crafted. The brisket melts in your mouth, the ribs fall right off the bone, and the chicken is cooked perfectly without losing any moisture. Their sauces and sides complete the meal fresh, flavorful, and made with attention to detail.
What really stands out is the consistency. Every bite is delicious, every dish comes out with the same high standard, and the service makes you feel welcomed from start to finish.
If you’re looking for top-tier BBQ in Texas, Kafi BBQ is a must-visit. This place deserves to be at the top of the list for anyone searching for the best BBQ in Texas absolutely worth the trip every single time.
Our host/owner, Salahuddin was absolutely awesome. He was very welcoming, courteous and made us feel at home. They are of Iraqi descent but born and raised here, but the food is prepared in true Texas style with some Iraqi spices. We ordered brisket along with sides of coleslaw and corn, while a friend tried the ribs.
The quality of the meat was outstanding easily a 10 out of 10. I am not usually a big steak person, but even I really enjoyed it. My boys loved it and said it was the best steak they’ve had in a long time. The prices were very reasonable, averaging about $20–$30 per person. We will definitely be coming back again.
I’ve eaten at Kafi BBQ at least 7 times, spent $100–$150 per visit, and came with different groups. I’m only writing this because I genuinely wanted this place to succeed.
The first visit, shortly after they opened (the first month), was magical. Everything hit. That experience is the reason I kept coming back. Unfortunately, since then, the biggest issue has been severe inconsistency, which is unacceptable at this price point.
Let’s start with the positives.
The branding and marketing are excellent. The concept is creative. The staff is always friendly. The pickles and salad are solid. The sausages have been the most consistent item and are genuinely good. The Texas Twinkie is a fun, solid option. The soda selection with real sugar is honestly more enjoyable than some of the food.
Now the problems.
The brisket has almost always been extremely dry. Occasionally it’s moist, but most of the time it is not. Even worse, the food is often served lukewarm, and by the time you sit down, everything cools quickly and dries out even more. That completely ruins the barbecue experience.
The burnt ends, which were once the best thing on the menu, have gone downhill badly. Lately they have been dry and overly fatty in a way that does not work. Fat is fine. Dry is not. Imagine difficult to chew and tough, and like chewing on dry fat. Not the moist-melty experience you’d expect with tender beef.
The menu creativity is there, but execution is lacking.
• Beef tallow fries are just okay
• Bread has a fermented taste and adds no value
• Coleslaw smells and tastes overly fermented
• Mac and cheese is consistently bad, lack of flavor and depth
• Elote is very basic
• Cornbread is dry
• Sides overall are forgettable
The banana pudding was incredible the first time. Since then, it’s been inconsistent and disappointing.
The beef rib was great once, average other times. Again, consistency is the issue.
At first, this place stood out because it was a halal option for Texas-style barbecue. That mattered. But now there are better halal BBQ options, and frankly, this does not come close. If we’re being honest, this isn’t close to the best barbecue in DFW or Texas. When barbecue is expensive, expectations should be high.
The one advantage Kafi BBQ has is availability. They’re open late, weekends are reliable, and items are usually in stock. If you just want meat and convenience, it works. But if you want truly great barbecue, there are far better choices.
Halal does not mean standards should be lower.
Instagram hype and branding cannot replace hot food, consistency, and execution.
This place could be much better, but until consistency improves and food is served properly hot, it’s a 2/5 for me.
Overall, the price was too high especially (spent $100) for this quality of food. The food was not hitting the spot at all, except for the burnt tips (and I really think the sauce on top helped it) and the sausage was not too bad. If you go, maybe ask for a plate of $30 to try a bit here and there. Also the way how they measure the food weight (b/c they charge by lbs) before and after the cash register doesn’t add up or make sense. I felt like the food was supposed to be $25 less, but again it was really busy and maybe they had a system ?!?!
I would recommend here if looking for some starter medium to well done BBQ that you can take home and dress/season up yourself (and not have to worry about the cooking), but that’s about it. Also you don’t get to pick how you well you want it done- it’s mainly the same for everyone which I can understand because they looked to be really busy.
The staff was nice and friendly. The tables were semi-clean, but I don’t mind cleaning. Again, trying to give a bit of grace because they were busy but just fyi.
Dino ribs were excellent not forgetting brisket n fries
The noise, the queues and the prices are justified !
Brisket so soft and flavorfull – literally melts in your mouth.
The options for steak are amazing but takes time. Inquire and order online if possible.
Iraqi sausage and empenadas are yum. But if you order a brisket and no sides you will be just fine.
Definitely a bit pricey but Halal, Organic and yumm !
And you can taste the difference
Skip the bread if you are acting like you are on a diet 😉

This will be a regular stop passing through Irving !
The staff was extremely friendly and helpful, especially since we hadn’t been there before! The restaurant was very clean and had plenty of seating. Parking was easy as well!
The meat offerings were really good. The brisket was so flavorful! We got one of the sausages and we can’t wait to go back and try other flavors! It was really really good.
Food rating is 4/5 because the sides were cold. The mac and cheese tasted great but it was not even room temp, but legit cold which seemed weird since it just opened. The fries definitely needed to be cooked longer as they were just barely cooked. The bread was really yummy!!
Overall, we can’t wait to back! We can’t wait to try more of the meat offerings and give the sides another try!
