I was charged $45.48 for a bottle of Château de Manissy Tavel Cuvée des Lys that normally sells for $15–$25 at regular retailers. This wasn’t part of any dining service or corkage fee — we had already paid for our meal. The bottle was a separate charge afterward, so there’s no “restaurant markup” excuse here.

When I called to ask why the price was so high, I was told it was only a “30% markup.” The math says that’s simply not true.

• If the bottle is ~$20 retail, a 30% markup is:
(20 × 1.30 = 26) → $26, not $45.48.
• Even if retail were $25:
(25 × 1.30 = 32.50) → still nowhere near $45.48.
• Removing tax from my charge:
(45.48 ÷ 1.10 ≈ 41.35)
So the pre‑tax bottle price was about $41.35.
• For $41.35 to be a 30% markup, their “cost” would have to be:
(41.35 ÷ 1.30 ≈ 31.80)
Meaning they’d claim they pay $31.80 wholesale for a bottle that retails for $15–$25. That’s not believable.

Call it what it is: a massive markup with a story that doesn’t survive basic arithmetic. I don’t mind paying a fair premium, but don’t tell customers it’s “30%” when the numbers clearly prove otherwise.

On top of that, the service was off. I had to repeatedly ask the waitress for my own jam and crackers because she kept making us share one tiny portion. The first time I came here, this wasn’t an issue at all. This time, it felt like everything was rationed.

I still had a good time overall, but between the pricing games and the decline in service, I won’t be returning.

One of the best things about this locally owned business, is that it is locally owned!
Everything you want in a wine store that you don’t always find, a great selection, very knowledgeable staff, great accompaniments like snacks and gifts, and a nice clean place that is extremely welcoming.

It’s a great place to stop in the summertime and enjoy a cold glass of white sitting on the patio and in the winter time enjoying a nice glass of red sitting in the tasting room. They have lots of things that are not easy to find and what you would consider a gem! They pride themselves on having a unique selection different from the big box shops!

There are price points for everybody and everybody will feel comfortable shopping here.

Did I mention these are local owners and they are in the store almost every day, a little gem in our town!

This place is amazing. Total hidden gem! The wine selection is superb. It felt like going to a Candy Store when I was a kid. Owners are super polite and on top of everything. Specially Adrian. That guy really knows his wine. It was like going to a wine store in Italy where they are giving you the whole breakdown of what they are selling and why. I definitely leant a few things and they are always happy to give you more. I’m definitely going back whenever I’m in town.

I was so excited to see a cute new wine shop opening in Oak Park, where I went to high school and spend a lot of time. If you are like me and love wine but don’t have the huge wine budget you wish you had, the owner will help you find something exciting in your price range and get you excited to drink it. He is knowledgeable, kind and clearly passionate about wine. I felt comfortable asking lots of questions and learning fun details about what I was purchasing- it made the whole experience even more memorable. I will keep coming back here and cant wait to see what he recommends next. I haven’t had anything less that awesome yet!

I always love stopping in this cozy store. The employees know about each bottle of wine they stock and are happy to offer recommendations. It’s a great place to shop or enjoy a glass with a friend.

They have great tastings and procure bottles that you won’t find at the local Binny’s. They deliver on a great charcuterie board, and occasionally collaborate with the phenomenal butcher shop around the corner – Carnivore. Hit them both when you’re in Oak Park.

Wonderful wine shop and wine bar. I thought there was only patio seating, but there’s an entire back room full of tables. Great spot to enjoy a few glasses of wine and some small bites or bring a bottle home. Chatted with the owner for a bit and he was very friendly. Will for sure be making this a regular spot.

Stopped yesterday on a friend’s recommendation. Love the setup and one of the clerks was quite personable and interested in my background. Great selection of Italian wine, my favorite next to Michigan. I also enjoyed wine by the glass. Very nice!

This is a brand new wine shop on Marion around the corner from Carnivore. Adrian is the owner and from outside of Rome. He has a very extensive knowledge of Italian wine. My wife and I told him a memory from our honeymoon in Amalfi and he was able to set us up with a great wine. He has non binny’s smaller producer wines. He will also have wine classes where he teaches finer points and notes. Plus he’s just getting started and can do so much more. Highly recommend you go and check this place out!
