A friend of mine convinced me to come to this restaurant. I have never been there before and I’m not quite the target audience for soul food, lol. My friend and one of the workers there however, can convinced me that the target audience for soul food is people with money who like good food! Boy where they right!! my friend insisted that I have the oxtails as my entrée and then I was able to choose three sides to go with that. I had Black Eyed Peas because I love Black Eyed Peas. White rice with brown gravy. Candied yams. Two cornbread muffins. And sweet tea. Holy moly! I was in hog heaven. This is literally the best restaurant I’ve eaten that in a long, long time. In all fairness oxtail was the only thing that was new to me. I was raised in Texas, and all the other elements of my meal were common to my upbringing. But here’s the thing, it’s not just that it’s food that I recognized. It is food that I recognized that tasted amazing. The oxtail was amazing. If you want to get it, be prepared to spend for it. I think it’s the most expensive thing on the menu. But holy hand grenades it’s worth the money. Honestly, do yourself a favor and visit the restaurant and have the oxtails. They also had smothered pork chops, fried catfish, fried chicken, and barbecued ribs. I took pictures of all the food that was available the night that I visited, so scroll through the photos to see what entrées and sides were available. Honestly, I’ll be back. It was 10 out of 10 on every single individual item I had. So a big shout out to my friend for insisting I come and have the oxtail, and for this amazing restaurant and their amazing cooking and staff.

This is my second weekend visiting and I was disappointed both times. The quality if taste has just gone down the drain. I’m not sure what happened but they need to go back. The previous weekend the collard greens and the meat were under cooked. This weekend everything was covered in black pepper. It was as if someone got black pepper happy. Even the Mac and cheese covered in pepper (so, it was black and yellow). Its truly unfortunate because that use to be my go-to for soul food.

My wife and I had been wanting to try this place for a while. It did not upset. The oxtail & rice w/gravy, Macaroni, and the cabbage was great. Well seasoned, tender, just overall delicious and I’m not a macaroni person but it was great, not your usual bland macaroni. It’s a little on the pricey side but hey you get what you pay for. I will be visiting sharing to try the pork chop plate. I want to get around to most of the menu and will review all

We showed up at 4pm with a 6 o’clock close time. The staff was sluggish but the owner was welcoming, polite. I had the Turkey wings with Green beans and Cabbage. Rice and gravy along with corn muffins are house gifted. She got the Oxtails with candied yams and black eyed peas
She preferred Pybur s but I was cool. Best green beans I’ve ever had. I wish the main portion was bigger in Turkey wings but I’m not complaining. The meal was fulfilling, scrumptious and I would recommend if you don’t feel like cooking and want an family option that couples as a vibe for a outing.

This was my first time ever eating at this establishment in general. I’ve heard about Atlanta location and have never been. I was visiting Houston and decided to try them for the first time. Upon entry they literally had just opened up. The staff were nice and friendly. I let them knew i was out of town and they welcomed me and my friends. I ordered fried chicken, Mac and cheese, rice and gravy and mash potatoes and gravy. It came with a rolls. For dessert i ordered peach cobbler. The food was really good. The fried chicken was fried to perfection. It my honest option it didn’t look the best on appearance but that didn’t have anything to do with the taste. It was fresh and seasoned which i throughly enjoyed. The rice and gravy was good as expected not too much but just right and so was the mash potatoes. The Mac and cheese i wasn’t too fond of. It was basic and tasted kinda store brought. The cornbread rolls were good and so was the peach cobbler. Overall the good met my expectations for an out of town visitor. I paired the meal with koolaid drink they offered. It was really good. The vibe was set to 90”s r&b classics. So while waiting we enjoyed the ambience of old school feeling. Overall this was a great experience and when i visit Houston again i will definitely want to come back.

Very good yams ,Mac n cheese, mashed potatoes and collard greens. However the chicken pieces were incredibly small! Decent portions on everything else. I got a variety to test everything out. Catfish was okay. Good kool-aid. I did not care for the pork ribs at all . I did not like the taste, smell or texture of them. I should’ve went with the smothered pork chops. I’d come back if I was already in the area.

No…this ain’t it. Chicken old & cold as well as fish. Mac n cheese super basic, cornbread dry, cold and just overall not good. Yams & cabbage were decent but only room temperature. Peach cobbler had quite a bit of uncooked dough (see pic) Pricey. Fiance went to leave a tip in the tip jar even though they didn’t deserve it (imo.) And the older lady reached out to take it from him, stating that “This goin in my pocket” with a bit of an attitude. And she wasn’t even the one who served us. Not a good look, yet typical of BOB, unfortunately. Atmosphere was dreadful & sad. Great music, however. Our 1st & last visit.

Deshawn hooked me up. The food is delicious and plentiful just like mom used to cook. The staff is friendly and charming. The environment is clean and inviting. Meal comes with two sides, rice and gravy, meat and cornbread. You are definitely not walking away hungry. This is a weekly spot for us.

Delicious Food & Southern Hospitality!

First time visiting This Is It Soul Food, and let me just say this place lives up to its name! The food was absolutely delicious comforting, flavorful, and cooked just right. I tried the oxtails, and meatloaf, and every plate hit the spot. The sides were on point too—especially the green beans and rice with gravy!

A big shoutout to Nicole and OT for their amazing service. They were not only welcoming but also super helpful with recommendations. Even though it was busy, they stayed professional and made sure we were taken care of. That kind of Southern hospitality makes all the difference.

If you’re in Houston and craving some authentic soul food, this is definitely the spot. Can’t wait to come back!
