Fantastic little chippy, staff are friendly and the food is quality. I had a small fish and chips, all cooked in beef dripping ( the only way in my opinion). The batter and fish was lovely and crisp, and the chips were perfect. Another plus for me was there was no excess grease lying in the bottom of the tray. I’ll be back. Sorry about the half eaten fish in the photo, couldn’t wait lol.

Review | Waldo Smith’s

Best Chippy in Lincoln? It’s in with a shout!

It’s a bold claim we know, but when it’s all cooked in beef dripping (the proper way) it’s hard to compete with.

As you can see from the post, Waldo Smiths aren’t shy with their portions either. This could have easily done two people without question.

The fish was huge! Not only that, it’s chunky too. The batter was spot on. Not too crispy but had a little bit of a crunch when you bit into it.

On to the chips and they were mouthwatering. You really will do well to find chips as good as these in Lincoln.

As we’ve said in previous reviews, if a Chip Shop can’t do peas and curry sauce properly, it’s not worth visiting. There were no issues here with either pot.

All in all, a great plate of Fish & Chips.
It’s different to our experience at Elite on the Bail for obvious reasons, but as takeaway chippy goes, this is the benchmark for us.

Unfortunately got home and a fishcake and chips missing from the bag so had to share 3 meals between 4 people. Would have gone back, but it’s 5 miles away. Very disappointing, managed to charge the full amount though which made it an expensive for not much food!

Been to Lincoln for the weekend and this is Friday nights tea from waldo smiths. I got regular Fish (cod) ‘n Chips wi’ bits (£8.90) the chips undercooked for me and the size of the fish was poor for the price in my view.

Traveling from Sheffield for work purposes and saw this chippy. I had the lunchtime special. Chip, fish and peas. Absolutely delicious. Nice friendly staff and a nice atmosphere. Will definitely go again when passing through.

We live in the south (where chippies are rubbish) and got treated to these delicious delights when visiting family. Hands down the best chippy I’ve ever tried, and I’ve tried a lot.

Worst chips I’ve bought, they were undercooked and soggy and all stuck to the paper. The mushy peas weren’t nice either, they were tasteless.

Just visited for lunch and I’m afraid I won’t be returning. This used to be a fantastic chip shop when Bentley’s had it years ago. I usually use our local but was passing so thought I’d try them but I’ve ended up binning most of it truth be told.

The chips were really soggy and with a greasy taste, not pleasant at all, the sausage wasn’t too bad but the curry sauce didn’t have no flavour, very bland.

There’s not many bad chippys we’ve experienced but one down in Dorset and now this one. I also see other reviews also mention about soggy and greasy food.

The cost was also a little overpriced especially compared to other chippys in the local area, and cash only which is getting rare these days, not sure for a chippy why it would be cash only.

Anyways I won’t be going back but just consider before you visit whether it’s worth going to one of the other local ones as I personally would recommend you do
