This place is NEXT LEVEL coffee!!! My wife and I have been hooked on it ever since we started going here. The food is amazing!!! The almond croissant, ham and cheese pie and baklava are among my favorites. If you are looking for coffee like you’ve never had before, stop looking and go to Ground Up Coffee & Bites.

Decent coffee – we got an iced latte and a baklava coffee, both of which were decent. However, for a place with so many people working, I was surprised that the wifi wasn’t working at all. Also, I feel like the music was slightly louder than a comfortable level. Servers were pretty friendly though!

Wonderful cafe. Staff has always been really approachable, bright, and friendly. Coffee has always been spot on & has never botched any of my orders. High quality espresso and tea. Has a print with me printer and usually plenty of seating. Calming atmosphere which I love and can spend time relaxing and journaling. Thank you to the staff for always being so great!

Cool spot with good music and a productive vibe. I went for a light roast espresso their own roast and I really liked it. The staff is friendly and the service is quick. If you’ve got a project to work on or something to get done on your laptop and need a little boost, this is the place.

Ground Up Coffee & Bites is a welcoming addition to the West loop. Hard to miss the shop and friendly vibe steps from the UIC/Halsted Polk exit. Ordered a Dark Roast, and it was definitely strong and tasty, not burnt or overpowering and added a touch of cream for color. The price is on par with larger chains as a 16 oz coffee was $3.91 after tax. There’s Wifi, plenty of seating inside and additional space through the lobby. Would definitely return for the pastries.

Been here a couple of times and noticed on every occasion a certain lack of friendliness and warmth. Yes, they may have a policy of staff shouting goodbye when you exit but that doesn’t make up for the rather cold staff interaction while you’re in store.
Their coffee drinks are fine, though. I just wish they would give you what you ordered – on some occasions, I received a 16oz latte after having preordered (and prepaid) a 20oz one.
I like their concept of providing two different seating areas: one with regular coffee shop appearance, the other as a silent area for working or studying. However, the latter is very sterile, cold and unappealing for my personal taste. The main area has better vibes, but their habit of keeping the sunshades lowered at least half way (even on days without any sunshine) can make it almost depressingly dark (the least you need in a city like Chicago).
All in all, I’d rate them 3.5 stars – if they worked a bit more on their service and atmosphere, they could easily reach a full five.

Delicious pastries, the spinach feta is my go-to for lunch, very filling and so good! Recently had their seasonal latte, hazel and amber, and it was awesome. The vibes are great, good place to sit and work as you eat or to meet with people and chat. I’ve come here every time I’m in the area so far and plan to continue.

This is a lovable shop I stumbled upon while visiting the area. I didn’t pay too much attention to their specialty drinks. I just a plain latte, and it was 10/10 perfection — strong and high-quality espresso. My lady said her caramel latte was 8/10, and that’s pretty high by her standards. They have a good-looking pastry case with sweets and savories (hand pies looked pretty good). The banana nut muffin I had was very solid, and the lady enjoyed an old fashioned donut. Nothing to companin about here.. all praise! There’s tons of sitting space and outlets inside, and it seemed like a popular spot to plug in. I’d happily frequent this place if I was a local.

Spacious and inviting downtown espresso spot, I found 15 minute parking right in front. Staff was friendly and happy to use my glass mug however odd it didn’t add any personal cup discount. I got the nutmeg latte, well balanced and tasty. The best of four on my Chicago roadtrip along with Conscious Cup Cook St Dubai chocolate in Barrington. There’s a neat main room and quiet side room. It’s a cool place.

We’ve been a few times and I swear each time is better than the last. My husband has grabbed us coffees before, but we finally stayed and grabbed a bite to eat too.My favorite has been the Hazed latte. There’s no picture of our food because the sandwich and handpie were so good we devoured it without second thought. Oops. Quickly becoming our coffee spot and it’s just a short walk from our place ❤️
