We just went here for dinner. The person working the window was friendly and helpful. Unfortunately, it took about 20 minutes for 4 tacos, a side of rice, and a plain quesadilla, and much of the order was wrong or didn’t taste right. Cuban vegan taco had beans and avocado, but no plaintains. Salmon taco was ordered without the cilantro sauce (it contains dairy, which I can’t eat), yet was covered in cilantro sauce. My husband’s shrimp tacos tasted off (like not fresh shrimp), so he couldn’t eat his. The only items that came out okay were the quesadilla and Mexican rice. Nearly $40 later….

El Rey Taquería offers a delicious twist on Cuban and Mexican food. Best of both worlds. Portions and prices are very reasonable.

Tried El Rey Cuban & Mexican Cuisine and really enjoyed it! The Cuban sandwich was flavorful and perfectly made. The charro beans were the highlight—absolutely amazing. Everything else I ordered was good too, and the service was friendly. I’ll definitely be coming back to try more dishes.

Every visit to El Rey is an exceptional experience. The establishment is always spotless, the food is consistently fresh, and the customer service goes above and beyond. From the moment you walk in, you’re treated like more than just a customer — you’re treated like family.

The staff is not only friendly but also informative. They always make sure to let you know about current deals and promotions. For instance, I found out coffee is free on weekends for dine-in customers — a great surprise! On another occasion, I was told breakfast was extended until 1 PM, which was perfect timing for my late start.

One of the standout reasons I keep coming back is the manager, Fabian. He’s always smiling, approachable, and quick to handle any concerns or questions with professionalism and genuine care.

But what really sealed my loyalty to this location happened one weekend when my car stalled right in their driveway. Without hesitation, Fabian remained calm, reassured me, and asked two of his staff members, Erick and Kalub, to help. They didn’t just try once — they stayed with me, kept trying to jump my car until my husband arrived, and refused to take a tip because, as they said, “You’re a regular customer.” That level of kindness and service is rare.

I’ve visited other El Rey locations, but none compare to this one. El Rey is more than food — it’s community, care, and consistency. Highly recommend!

Generally come here for great breakfast on the weekends. The eggs are always well made and the meat is always full of flavor. We recommend the steak and eggs plate and chorizo and egg tacos but everything here has been so tasty! The staff is friendly and the restaurant is clean.

Went here with some friends and it was a tossup with the food.
My burrito was really good but the shrimp tacos weren’t. The shrimp had a dirty taste. They appeared to be cleaned, but the taste was definitely off.

My family and I eat here about every week. It’s been consistently one of our favorite spots in Katy for several years. From tortas, to nachos, or even breakfast burritos, I haven’t had anything that I don’t like. And while you might not think to go to a Cuban place for coffee, the espresso is great, I usually get it iced with mocha.

Great food and service !! It is hard to choose between all delicious options.. best cilantro sauce in town … and finish with a tres leches or a coffee , for me a capuchino with cinnamon on top !

This is now the fourth time El Rey Taqueria has messed up my order, and at this point it honestly feels intentional. My order couldn’t be simpler — a bacon and egg taco, well-done eggs. Yet every single time, they find a way to mess it up.

I waited 10–15 minutes in the drive-thru for what I assumed would be a properly cooked taco. I open the bag, and there’s no bacon, and the eggs are watery instead of well done. This has happened repeatedly. I always call, they either refund me or remake the order but it keeps happening. This last time I spoke with a manager named Francisco, who didn’t seem to care at all. No apology, no concern just issued me a partial refund for a messed-up order.

Horrible experience from start to finish. At this point, it’s clear they don’t care about their customers or quality control.
