Stopped in on a cold snowy evening for some authentic Mexican street tacos. They did not disappoint!!! If you have not visited yet dont wait. Extremely flavorful options. Their street corn in a cup was very good too. Definitely be back and will use them for catering the next time we host a big group.

Tucked away in the heart of Fruita, CO. Desierto Rojo is a must-visit spot for anyone craving authentic Mexican flavors with a bold twist. On my recent visit, I dove into their Pastor Burrito and Quesabirria Tacos, and let me tell you – it was a game-changer.
The Pastor Burrito was an absolute beast: generously stuffed with marinated pork, rice, beans, and all the fixings, it was incredibly filling without feeling heavy. The flavors popped with just the right amount of spice, tangy pineapple notes, and a smoky edge that kept me coming back for bite after bite. But the real star? The Quesabirria Tacos. These beauties came loaded with tender, juicy birria meat and gooey melted cheese, grilled to perfection and served piping hot. Dipping them into the rich, savory birria gravy was pure bliss – savory, slightly spicy, and utterly addictive.
The food was so spot-on that we couldn’t resist returning the very next day for seconds. Service was friendly and quick, portions were hearty, and prices felt like a steal for the quality. If you’re in the mood for Mexican comfort food that hits all the right notes, Desierto Rojo won’t disappoint. Five stars – I’ll be back soon!

Nothing crazy special about this place, but its was decent mexican food. Got the Chile rellenos, tacos, beans and rice. I think if I went back I would only get the tacos. I feel like this place added too much to their menu that probably should be on there.

Been here twice now and the food is absolutely awesome! They are definitely working through some growing pains, especially with their ordering system. Having to stand around just to place an order—or even just to get a second beer—gets tiring. And as I’m writing this review, my beer was brought to the table unopened, leaving my husband to stand around again just to have it opened. That really shouldn’t happen. I hope they get these kinks worked out soon because the food is truly worth it!

The food was delicious! I had tacos, everyone else in my party had burritos, everything was really really good. Reasonably priced, good portion sizes, flavorful, good hot sauces. Great location, great service. Can’t wait to come try more from the menu!

Phenomenal!! The salsas are truly incredible and something to write home about!
This chorizo recipe is an absolute steal at only five dollars!!
And churros-what?! What a joy.
The chile rellano is perfectly balanced with thick pepper, oozing cheese, and neutral fry batter.
Chicarrones come with guacamole and that’s a pairing I’ve never seen before, but can no longer live without!
What an excellent spread and a stellar grand opening weekend. Well done!!

The atmosphere was nice and clean, which was the best part. Unfortunately, there were three TVs playing with sound on, making it hard to have a conversation. The salsa lacked flavor and tasted watered down. I ordered two asada tacos and two pastor tacos—while the pickled onions were great, the pineapple chunks were too much, and the meat didn’t have enough flavor to justify $5 per taco, especially for a small town. The jícama was really good. Drinks were extremely overpriced ($12 for three small drinks), and I wasn’t a fan of the self-serve salsa station at these prices. Overall, it felt overpriced for the quality.
