Sushi Mon – Glenwood Place
Reviews
– Crunch Salmon Roll: 0.5/5. The pickle radish and ponzu sauce does not resonate with the salmon at all. There’s only sourness when chewing.
– Shrimp Tempura: 1/5. Not crispy, probably oil temperature too low/fried time overdue.
– Sushimon Handroll: 4/5. Balanced food taste, the radish and perilla leaf worked really well boosting overall favor, recommended.
However, the service is 10/5. Great service from server Danielle, loved her serve attitude.
Environment vise, great place and atmosphere, if you are looking for a nice place to date, probably yeah, but if you only want to enjoy Japanese cuisine, then not recommended.
We also tried the rolls — everything was good, but I definitely recommend the sashimi.
Thanks to Daniel for the quick service and the anniversary treat.
We’ll definitely be back. Everything looked beautiful too
From their first spot nestled in-between Zaxby’s and an NCSU apartment complex, to their temporary cafe location during COVID, and now to their current, elegantly tiny space, we have dined at Sushi Mon for most of our special occasions in life. And throughout all of these years, their quality has only improved.
Sushi Mon is always my recommendation when people ask for good sushi in the Triangle. I believe it’s the best quality you can find in this area; rivaling, if not besting, the M Sushi empire in Durham.
Even though it’s not the typical, one-at-a-time omakase experience, their Nigiri Omakase has always been such a great option. Getting their Mother’s Miso Soup (a rich and fatty miso soup with fish and cabbage), 8 nigiri, 1 temaki, and a slice of their castella style tamagoyaki all for under $50 in 2025 is a great deal.
Their sashimi options have always been of high quality and beautiful presentation, with the addition of real wasabi, both grated and pickled (kizami).
The truffle tuna roll is a favorite and my recommendation if sashimi/nigiri isn’t your thing.
And if sushi isn’t your thing, their small plates are also all delicious and expertly crafted.
All in all, if you love sushi, you will never be disappointed at Sushi Mon. We have eaten Michelin star sushi in the US and experienced omakase in Tokyo, and Sushi Mon always hits the mark.
Also, they only accept walk-ins; reservations are only taken on Valentine’s Day.
Our server, Danielle, was awesome—really friendly and made the whole meal even better with her great service. Prices were totally fair, and even though the place is on the smaller side, it was really clean and had a kind of casual upscale hotel restaurant vibe.
