Reviews
We usually go for their bento boxes, and on our last visit, we ordered the beef teriyaki box, a special sushi roll (which was delicious), and yaki udon. The yaki udon arrived sizzling hot and was a good portion, but the flavor fell a bit short of its appealing presentation. I feel Yuko Maki keeps their flavors more neutral to appeal to a broader audience, which I understand —it ensures everyone feels comfortable dining here.
This neutral environment is one of the reasons we keep coming back. On our last visit, we first considered trying a Korean restaurant just a few shops away. However, while checking out their menu, we felt uneasy—the staff and even some customers inside gave us strange looks, making us feel unwelcome. We decided to skip it and returned to Yuko Maki, where the atmosphere is always inclusive.
Sure, Yuko Maki’s flavors may not always pack a punch, but the reliable food, reasonable prices, and sense of belonging make it a preferable choice for us.
Fish box is very deep fried but the fish is light and delicious. Mixed combo allows you to pick your roll from California, BC roll or spicy Tuna.
Customer service is below average, they really don’t acknowledge their customers, only fill the tea once and don’t check on you once the food has arrived. Also they brought the food out staggered. I practically finished the sushi combo before the fish box was ready.
Since I wasn’t familiar with this part of Vancouver’s food spots I asked a local where to eat good sushi. This place didn’t disappoint. It got pretty busy while we were there but the service kept up. They also had numerous take-out orders being picked up. This spot has good business and people enjoy their food. I thought the food was good. The variety was very nice, and the plating they used was also very nice. In my opinion, their Volcano sushi roll was the best sushi on their menu. I noticed our food came out pretty quick so they must’ve done some preparation to ensure this. I can’t complain about the service, but let’s just say the octopus, salmon, etc. dish wasn’t my ‘cup of tea’.
I would recommend this spot because they have a good variety so you won’t be stuck choosing between this soup or that soup. There are many more options.
We ordered 1x Chicken Teriyaki Combo, 2x small soups, 1x Volcano Sushi roll, and 1x combination sushi plate with octopus, salmon, etc.
