Ken Sushi Workshop: Experience Exquisite Omakase and Fresh …
Reviews
Service moves at your pace. They talk with you, not at you, and they never hurry the counter. The only thing fast is how quickly you fall for it. Fish tastes alive. Cuts are precise. A brush of nikiri replaces the soy you thought you needed. Citrus shows up only when it makes the piece sing.
Ken had a drink with us, told us a slice of his story, and thanked us for being there. Not a performance. Gratitude. You feel it in the way he watches the rice, in how he times the handoff, in how he treats regulars and first-timers the same. He remembers where he started and honors it every night.
Greats find their way here. Phil Mickelson. President Obama. People who know craft when they taste it. Some nights you wonder if Del Mar even deserves him. Lucky for us, he’s here.
Better than New York or San Francisco? Often. At least as good, easily. Sit at the counter, say omakase, trust the rice, cancel your next plan.
Quality, value, experience, ambiance. Checks every box.
Don’t go here if you want to be able to continue to enjoy your gas station sushi.
Mr Ken as Owner Chef, He is amazing person. Kindly. nice foods maker.
I m living Irvine orange county, 1~2 times visiting Ken Sushi since first open year.
Reservation first… But… always full few months…
Anyway, I recommend around 9pm for walk in.
if, you are in Ken Sushi one time….. you never…ever… complain !!!
I’ve been going here since the first day they opened and the quality, consistency, presentation and service are always above expectations. The sauces they use for salads, appetizers and the main meals are always very fresh and unique, which makes the meal more special. The sushi tastes fantastic. The rice is always fluffy, light and rolled sparingly with the sushi.
I recommend Ken’s sushi, but I suggest you make reservations if you have a part of more than 4 people. We spent $63 per person (no alcohol), but the quality is worth it.
Ken’s larger-than-life charm infuses the whole room, but it’s the precision on the plate that seals it. After trying omakase around the world, this is the benchmark. Not so “hidden” anymore, and still absolutely exceptional.
We ordered the chefs choice nigiri set ($55), the fish temperature was off—quite warm, which took away from the freshness we expected. The texture of the fish wasn’t great either—lacking the chewiness. The overall quality of the sushi just didn’t justify the $200 total we spent.
When we mentioned to the waitress that the quality of the sushi wasn’t as good as before, she brushed it off rather than taking the initiative to check with the chef. That response, combined with the food quality, really left us feeling disappointed.
For the price we paid, the overall experience didn’t match what we expected based on our previous visit.
