I truly can’t put into words how amazing the Omakase experience was at Ken’s. Hands down the best sushi I’ve ever had. Each plate was so different and had so much unique flavor, with fish that truly melts in your mouth. Our entire group was speechless. Don’t let the odd location/unassuming atmosphere fool you – this is the spot. I can’t wait to come back!

Ken’s Sushi Workshop looks like nothing, tastes like everything. You sit, the room hushes, and Ken starts conducting. He’s calm, gracious, laser-focused. No theatrics. Just warm rice, pristine fish, and seasoning that whispers instead of shouts. One bite in, you nod. Three bites in, you stop talking. Bring your poker face. It won’t help.

Service moves at your pace. They talk with you, not at you, and they never hurry the counter. The only thing fast is how quickly you fall for it. Fish tastes alive. Cuts are precise. A brush of nikiri replaces the soy you thought you needed. Citrus shows up only when it makes the piece sing.

Ken had a drink with us, told us a slice of his story, and thanked us for being there. Not a performance. Gratitude. You feel it in the way he watches the rice, in how he times the handoff, in how he treats regulars and first-timers the same. He remembers where he started and honors it every night.

Greats find their way here. Phil Mickelson. President Obama. People who know craft when they taste it. Some nights you wonder if Del Mar even deserves him. Lucky for us, he’s here.

Better than New York or San Francisco? Often. At least as good, easily. Sit at the counter, say omakase, trust the rice, cancel your next plan.

Quality, value, experience, ambiance. Checks every box.

If you want probably the best sushi in San Diego and one of the best sushi spots I have personally experienced outside of Japan, this is it.

Don’t go here if you want to be able to continue to enjoy your gas station sushi.

We made lunch reservations for 6 people the night before, so our table was ready when we got there.

I’ve been going here since the first day they opened and the quality, consistency, presentation and service are always above expectations. The sauces they use for salads, appetizers and the main meals are always very fresh and unique, which makes the meal more special. The sushi tastes fantastic. The rice is always fluffy, light and rolled sparingly with the sushi.

I recommend Ken’s sushi, but I suggest you make reservations if you have a part of more than 4 people. We spent $63 per person (no alcohol), but the quality is worth it.

Ken’s Sushi is the absolute best! The whole experience was just incredible and exceeded all my expectations. The quality of food is supreme and you just feel the good vibes coming from Ken and his team as soon as you come through the door. It’s clear he loves his craft and loves bringing joy to his patrons. Shout out to Jenna too for making sure we were taken care of when our table was taking a little longer to become available. I texted my friends today and told them that we have to come back. See you guys soon!

This place is nothing short of absolutely legendary for sushi. Ken himself is a charismatic, funny and loving host to this chateau of incredible sushi and good times. The quality of the fish is something I’ve never had in my life, it is pristine and incredibly fresh. The staff that works here does such an amazing job making sure you’re taken care of. I have heard of this place for years but today was my first time, absolutely blown away by the quality, the service and time I had here tonight. Ken I want to apologize because you’ll be seeing me a lot more often from now on, your food isn’t just food it’s an experience that left me amazed. This is the best sushi I’ve had in San Diego by far.

Ken Sushi Workshop is the spot that ruins other sushi for me—in the best way. Every visit reminds me why I keep coming back: pristine fish, generous cuts, and a welcoming, family-style energy that is totally unique to this place.

Ken’s larger-than-life charm infuses the whole room, but it’s the precision on the plate that seals it. After trying omakase around the world, this is the benchmark. Not so “hidden” anymore, and still absolutely exceptional.

Today was a second visit at Ken Sushi, but unfortunately it was disappointing. We had an incredible first visit to this restaurant—the sushi was fresh, expertly prepared, and the overall experience left us amazed. We were looking forward to come back again, but it was a letdown.

We ordered the chefs choice nigiri set ($55), the fish temperature was off—quite warm, which took away from the freshness we expected. The texture of the fish wasn’t great either—lacking the chewiness. The overall quality of the sushi just didn’t justify the $200 total we spent.

When we mentioned to the waitress that the quality of the sushi wasn’t as good as before, she brushed it off rather than taking the initiative to check with the chef. That response, combined with the food quality, really left us feeling disappointed.

For the price we paid, the overall experience didn’t match what we expected based on our previous visit.

Went here for dinner last week with a couple friends and overall it was a solid experience. The place has a relaxed vibe, nothing too fancy, which I liked. We ordered a mix of sushi rolls and a few hot dishes. The sushi tasted fresh and was put together nicely, though a few rolls were pretty standard and not super creative. The ramen was warm and comforting, especially on a busy evening, and the broth had good flavor. Service was friendly and patient even when it got a little crowded. Prices felt fair for the portion sizes. Not the best Japanese food I’ve ever had, but definitely a place I wouldn’t mind coming back to when I’m in the area.
