Cocktails & Small Plates 138 Newark Ave, Jersey City, NJ.

Don’t Tell Liv : r/jerseycity – Reddit

I am dying for either a dedicated sports bar or a dive bar with a pool table or even a dedicated craft beer bar. The cocktail bars are really overdone here.

The cocktails here are pretty good. Very rare to find a place that serves Lychee Negronis. The Banana Pudding Old Fashioned is fantastic. The plates are pretty small but expected for Tapas servings.

Super cute bar! Love the interior design and the vibe. The view is great and the bar is beautiful. Also plenty of cute booths. I love the intimate, luxurious feel. The cocktails are amazing and so are the appetizers. This may become one of my go to hangout spots!

Don’t Tell Liv is an absolute standout! This new spot brings upscale yet effortlessly cool vibes right to the heart of Newark Ave. From the moment I walked in, I was impressed by the sleek ambiance and the welcoming staff who made the experience even better.

The Purple Velveteen was a showstopper—an absolute must-try for Mezcal lovers. The bar itself is stunning, with plenty of space to relax and enjoy expertly crafted cocktails. Whether you’re looking for a chic night out or a go-to spot for great drinks, this place delivers. Highly recommend!

The bartenders Barb and Danny are exceptional at their craft and have kept me coming back since they’ve opened. The manager Italo is ok but has great plaid shirts. DO TELL LIV about this place!

Beautiful space and drinks. Very busy for a soft opening as expected. Look forward to trying it again once everything is settled for some food as we were short on time. Curious about the private area for a possible event. A wonderful addition to Jersey city.

Stopped by this afternoon and experienced:
1) MICE
2) INCORRECT menu prices
3) Poor service
4) Bad food

It took 35 minutes after ordering for our fried cauliflower appetizer to come out. The waitress made 6 round trips past our table during this period without saying anything to us. We weren’t even offered complimentary water. When I asked about the food, she said, “Oh, I see it!” before grabbing a plate and handing it to another table that was sat after us. It was another few minutes until she brought our food over. The fried cauliflower with “yuzu aioli and toasted sesame” was five pieces of fried cauliflower with mayonnaise and one sprinkle of everything bagel seasoning on top.

When I asked for the check the waitress declined to bring it to the table, instead asking for my card so she could do the transaction at the register. While I waited for my check and card I was greeted by none other than a MOUSE by my feet. If your 2nd floor restaurant has mice – well, good luck with your next health inspection.. At least the mouse was friendlier than the service staff.

When she came back and handed me the receipt I told her about the mouse. There was zero apology. All I got was an “Oh, thanks.” Looking at the receipt, the food was $2 MORE EXPENSIVE than stated on the QR-code menu! It was $16 on the menu but $18 on the receipt. I now understand why she didn’t hand me the check.. It’s so they can avoid customers noticing price discrepancies. Pure scummy maneuver.

0/5. There are much, much better “speakeasies” and cocktail bars in the area. But hey, if you love being scammed and eating alongside Remy from Ratatouille – come here!

I’m not sure where these negative reviews about the bartenders are coming from — it honestly feels intentional or maybe even from competitors. I’ve been coming here since they opened, and every bartender I’ve met has been friendly and patient.

I’ve never seen them be rude to anyone, even when dealing with those loud, attention-seeking patrons every bar gets.

TBH Compared to some spots across the street, like The Ashford, the staff here actually shows a lot more patience and respect…

Also, I definitely recommend this place to anyone visiting from out of town who wants something different from the ratchet, overly crowded bars/clubs in Jersey City. The prices are reasonable, and the DJs always play good music.

Honestly, I shouldn’t even be putting people on to this spot because I don’t want it to get crowded.

The place was cool but I did not like the bartender with the tattoos on neck. She wasn’t nice, constantly on her phone and when I would finally get her attention she seemed annoyed. The other thing that rubbed me the wrong way was the guy with the man bun I asked him if he can put on the football they had on and then turned off, and he says to be “no ingles” when I clearly heard him in front of me speaking English so then I switched over to Spanish and he says to ask the bartenders. Food was good though drinks too.

Don’t know why this place has such mixed reviews. I went here last night with a friend for happy hour and it was so so good. We got the Mac and cheese and Wagyu sliders, as well as Pornstar martinis and an espresso and pistachio martini after. Everything was great. Our bartender Barbara was so sweet and went above and beyond by giving us recommendations and great service! Would come back again for sure!

I’ve been about 4 times and had a great experience each time. I haven’t eaten food there but I’ve had several different cocktails and they’re solid. Staff have always been pleasant, no notes.

Reliable place to pop in with a friend or a date night- I love sitting at the seats that overlook outside.
