With this in mind, I asked the lady behind the counter whether they were providing had a special free 6 inch sub for veterans. She said yes and asked me what would I like on my sub. I told her what I wanted and she prepared it. The she went to her cash register and said that will be $7.69. Evidently she saw the puzzled look on my face and clarified, “$6.99 plus tax”. I then said, “didn’t you tell me that you were providing six inch subs free to veterans on Veterans Day?” She said something like I thought you were asking about our deal on 6” subs then waited expectantly for me to pay my bill.
I considered just walking out without paying, But somehow, I felt that that wouldn’t be right. So I just took the sandwich the bill and left. Obviously the woman had no idea what I was talking about when I asked about their special thanking veterans for their service.
I can see how some franchise owners may not won’t to participate in thanking veterans for their service, but I found it particularly strange that that would be the case anywhere in Alabama given the strong support of usually given to veterans in this state.
I guess that fact that in the big scene of things the fact that I had to pay for sandwich at this subway location in itself is not a big deal. What I found offensive is that a franchise owner intentionally decided not to participate in an effort to thank veterans for their service and didn’t even. Inform their employees about the offer. Not only am I going to never use never step foot in this subway location again I’m going to spread the news that this franchise owner refuses to thank veterans for their service.
