We came with high expectations because their raiting was soo high. But honestly it was very underwhelming. The prices are too high for the portion sizes. A table for two gets 3 slices of hamachi. 3. Croquettes… what happened to even numbers. But the biggest miss was – all the warm dishes arrived cold. Talking about cold… the place was freezing cold.( we’ve been here in February) We were glad that we overdressed with winter clothes.
In their defence – after we addressed that the main dishes arrived cold they offered us wine on the house. But still for the prices they ask I expect it to be top notch.

I find it’s an experimental restaurant. They change food menus frequently. The portions are shockingly less. The price is super high.
The wine list doesn’t make sense as whatever we choose was not available.
The food taste is not good. I didn’t really enjoy it.
Pommes with cheese is a new idea but the portions were tiny.

The food was excellent, the service friendly. We felt that the price was a little high for the portion size. Everything is a la carte.

We had a wonderful evening. Small, but excellent menu from start to finish. Very good drinks and beverages. Service knowledgeable and friendly without being in your face. They had very good vegetarian options, but having fish / meat gave us a more rounded experience. But even without, I’d say it is absolutely worth coming. Expect some noise, but also room to breathe. Highly recommended.

A wonderful restaurant. The food was delicious (the duck was excellent. Juicy and not fatty.), the pumpkin/kurbis was fantastic. I loved the comfortable and attractive decor. And the service was perfect. I will be back when I return to Hamburg next summer.

In a city full of German restaurants and fast food, sometimes you want something different. Ugly duckling shines amongst the conventional with their nose to tail concept in a cosy, but casual bistro in a quiet street away from the thoroughfare.
Their menu changes regularly, but the menu is seasonal, using the whole animal and leaning towards French, but with a London vibe.
From the very first bite, to the service, the plate execution and the attention to detail without fuss, the delivery was excellent and it truly deserves a visit and every success.

best restaurant i’ve been to in hamburg within the past 8 years. the portions aren’t tremendous, but all the more reason to order and try out a few more.
