I had a great lunch at Kaz Sushi Bistro with a few colleagues recently. The food was excellent, and the experience overall felt relaxed and thoughtful. Our server really stood out. She was super attentive, friendly, and very accommodating with a few menu adjustments we needed.

I ordered the Chicken Teriyaki Bento, which usually comes with seaweed salad, agedashi tofu, miso soup, rice, and a green salad. I asked to swap the seaweed salad for a regular green salad and opted to skip the miso soup. When I found out the agedashi tofu was prepared with fish sauce, our server didn’t hesitate to offer a substitute and brought out vegetable tempura instead, which turned out to be a great choice.

The chicken teriyaki was tender and flavorful, and the salad was crisp and fresh with a nice dressing. The tempura had a light crunch and wasn’t greasy, which I really appreciated. The meal was filling but not heavy, and the green tea we had on the side tied everything together nicely.

Kaz feels like one of those spots where attention to detail really shows, both in the food and the service. I’d definitely go back.

For those who are truly passionate about sushi, I highly recommend this place. The menu offers both Traditional Sushi, featuring authentic Japanese-style sushi, and Chef’s Special Original Sushi, which adds unique flavors—both were excellent.

Besides sushi, there are plenty of light dishes to enjoy. The seaweed salad, agedashi tofu, and octopus were especially delicious. The atmosphere is not overly luxurious but has a slightly relaxed feel, making it more comfortable. Thanks to that, the prices are also very reasonable.

wonderful lunch spot! A hidden gem conveniently located in the heart of the city, close to the metro and surrounded by offices. The restaurant manager and staff are incredibly kind and welcoming. Highly recommended! love the Matcha ice cream with tequila

I really enjoyed my meal here. I had so much sushi at the counter and it was so fresh. The staff was quick, friendly, and pretty funny. The gentlemen behind the counter answered questions about the pieces of sushi that were new to me, such as the salmon eggs. I am giving the food a 4/5 because unfortunately I did not feel well later that night after eating there, but it’s possible that the heat played a roll or I tried new fish in the chef’s selection that didn’t agree with my stomach. I guess just be cautious of trying new rolls.

Now don’t get me wrong this is one of the best places I’ve seen in DC to eat sushi! It’s very good and the atmosphere is great.
Staff is really helpful when choosing however my order took a very long time to arrive. This might just be a personal experience so I’m not saying it’s the case for everyone. However of it is it’d be awesome as the final step to perfection to be slightly quicker and more fast paced when taking orders.
Otherwise this place is really just great

Lovely spot with fresh sushi. I would recommend the crispy Brussels sprouts, edamame was listed as “spicy” but seasoning didn’t taste like anything. Sushi was great, ambiance is lovely. I would try again!

Sushi was fresh and delicious. I’m normally a nigiri without special sauce kind of guy but I must admit the sauces were tasty, creative and refreshing.

Their cocktails were so good that most of our party who initially didn’t want any ordered similar drinks.

Staff was friendly and accommodating for both our large party size and our boisterous children.

Why one less star? We ordered multiple bento boxes with unagi and it tasted off (I hope undercooked). In the same bentos they had several creative and delicious items but the main star , eel, was not edible for us.

Good luck to you Kaz sushi, thank you for an enjoyable night!

A wonderful sushi restaurant that is on the higher-end and more upscale than it needs to be. The staff are really nice and the restaurant provides cozy and warm vibes, but the food was on the pricier end.

We had their specialty nigiri but found them to not be all too special; however, the winning dish of the night went to their salmon roll with pickled pineapple and basil. Somehow, that flavor palette blew my mind, and I still can’t stop thinking about how delicious it was.

Kaz was my summer resturant week pick this year. It came highly recommended and so I decided to check it out with two friends. They offered a good preset options that allowed us to try a few of their appetizers including scallop ceviche, grilled avocado, and grilled chicken wings. We also added an app of baby octopus which was really good. Both their nigiri and maki were high quality. The rice was well prepared and the fish was fresh. There toro and tamago were my favorite. Left feeling full and happy. A great resturant week pick that I would return to for the full menu.

My chicken bento box was really good. The sushi rolls was more like 4/5 stars for me (it could be just that little bit fresher IMO even though there’s nothing wrong with the quality). The service was excellent. If it was just $5 – 7 less per pax for the meal, the value would have been excellent. I am rating it 5 stars even though 4.5 stars is what I would have rated.

Updated (2025 Dec): From 5 to 4 stars overall. Came here again and was a little disappointed with the food. Service was still top notch but the quality wasn’t the same as my first visit. Overall have lowered my rating to 4 starts over 2 visits.
