Great place for a date night or just to enjoy some hibachi with friends/family. The staff is very polite, professional, and prompt. And by the end of the night you’ll definitely be able to answer the question if you can catch shrimp with your mouth (the hibachi chef will ask if you’d like to try to catch shrimp being thrown by him with the tongs etc) The atmosphere

One of the worst customer service experiences I’ve had. I came for a walk-in pickup and waited a long time with no communication about my order. When I politely asked the staff, the response was rude and dismissive.

The atmosphere felt very unwelcoming, and the way customers were treated gave the impression that people are served differently based on appearance or background. That kind of behavior is unacceptable.

Restaurants should treat every customer with basic respect. Unfortunately, that clearly isn’t happening here. I will not be coming back. Try to atleast not employ those racist employees, I saw some of your reviews they faced the same situation but you didn’t took any action, if any one reading this watch out

We had reservations for 630. Arrived with my pregnant wife and all party members on time. We were made to wait over an hour with zero updates on expected seated time or apologies for the wait until I pressed a worker for some sort of expected wait time. They decided to then seat a several groups of later reservations before us and we finally were fed up and left with the staff half heartedly apologizing. Truly a disappointing degree of mismanagement and time service disparity. Not sure how to review the food since we were never given the chance to eat

Upon walking in, there was a long line and we didn’t have reservations (our own fault), so my group of 4 waited about 30 mins before being sat at a hibachi grill. The grill was really close to a wall, so it was a tight fit (so much so that the waiter could only yell across the table to get our order, since there was no space to walk up to us.) My group of 4 also struggled to hear each other, even though we were sat close- but this is to be expected at a hibachi grill.
The hibachi chef was amazing! He was entertaining, kind, and really observant to our table’s needs. The hibachi was average with any other hibachi restaurant in this area, while the sushi was a little below average. I’m satisfied with food and service we received, but I doubt I will return. The sushi is also on the expensive side in comparison to other sushi in the Overland Park area.

We had reservations for a party of 7 that was made 24 hours in advance, still took us 20+ minutes to get seated. We got 1 drink and no refills until we managed to track down a staff member at the end of the meal. The meat was overcooked and largely flavorless (I’ve been to my share of hibachis). Pretty disappointing for trying to make my brother’s birthday special.

This hibachi restaurant wasn’t that great.
The service was slow.
I thought the food portions were delicious but small compared to other Japanese hibachi restaurants I’ve been to. I was still a little hungry when I finished my food.
The restaurant was pretty full but the wait wasn’t too long.
The location wasn’t in a nice area.
The food was $5 overpriced in my opinion.
I don’t care to ever come back to this place.
I didn’t expect Kansas City to have many great Japanese hibachi options.

Had a reservation for 6:30 and finally walked out at 7:30 to find dinner elsewhere after never being seated. Many other people with reservations were doing the same. Staff seemed like they couldn’t care less unfortunately.

My family had to find a new hibachi grill after Samurai Chef and Gojos closed. We have tried several and like Toro the best. The food is good (though on occasion the steaks do get over cooked), and the service and good as well. We like to get the steak combos and sub for the filet, which is very tender. The scallops and shrimp are always well done too. We love the soup and salad that comes before the meal- a nice little appetizer kind of thing. Speaking of appetizers, the edamame and takoyaki are worth trying if you don’t want any sushi. The wait can be a bit long sometimes, especially on the weekend but it’s shorter if you call ahead and make a reservation. Sometimes you can feel a bit squished in when there’s a lot of people at the table but the ambiance is nice- feels cozy with the dim lights and the dining area being slightly broken up. It looks neat inside too, especially the drink and sushi bar area. If you just want to pop in and not do hibachi there is also a small area of seating for that. The waiters/waitress’s and chefs are all very friendly.

Unassuming excellence. Saturday night, I had the rainbow roll and crazy salmon roll. My date had teriyaki chicken w hot and sour soup served by Kenny. He was remarkably engaging, with the presentation and flavor superb. We walked right in and although it seemed very busy, we were seated promptly and served quickly. It’s easy to overlook, but if you try it, my guess is you’ll add it to your “go to” list.

Not super impressed. Food was just ok. We ordered hot and sour soup, salad with ginger, dragon roll, godzilla roll. Food wasn’t bad but not good enough to return. Waiter was great though. Very on top of it.
