After being urged by several Helen’s Fans we stopped in for the third 2026 Lenten fish fry review. We seated ourselves and after a bit of a wait we were greeted by a very friendly server. Love that we had an option of how many pieces of fish to order, we just had two pieces with hush puppies onion rings and broccoli. Fish was fantastic, onion rings were way over cooked. Broccoli was nice. I didn’t try the hush puppies since I was so full from the fish and broccoli. We will be back, the burgers looked amazing. I see why this is a favorite place to dine.

This place is truly amazing. We was greeted at the door with a smile. Engaged very well with our table and personally introduced. Everyone was very friendly and helpful if needed. I entered this place with someone with an intellectual disability and they went above and beyond to be inclusive when speaking and engaging. That alone spoke volumes.
Now on the to food and service. The catfish was outstanding. Everything was hot and fresh. Our cups never empty. You can not get any fresher food or at the price we paid there. I will definitely be returning as well as getting others to follow. The portion are large as well in my opinion. Plenty to bring home. The dessert I got for home as well is outstanding. The chocolate and coconut pie are to die for. Thank you everyone there from the cooks to the waitresses. I don’t know why I haven’t been sooner.

This place was surprisingly fantastic! Greeted soon as we walked in, excellent service from our server Reagan, she was great. I had the open roast beef sandwich dinner and the lady got the hamburger steak meal. Both was amazing! Would definitely highly recommend if u enjoy country cooking in a very nice and relaxing atmosphere. 5 ⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️from my family. Almost forgot to mention the pricing was great as well. Keep it up

Our first time at Helen’s, I picked up our food. My husband got the all American burger and onion rings. I ordered pippin Chicken which is grilled tenders with bacon and cheese on top served with honey mustard, mashed potatoes and green beans.
The chicken tenders were so tough I literally could not eat them, the bacon was literally bacon bits which I would not have ordered it if said that in the menu, green beans tastes like they were cooked with vinegar and the mashed potatoes tastes like a mix or real and instant potatoes.
My husbands burger meat was dry. His toppings were correct and he got some onion rings.
I was able to pick around my chick and get one chicken tender total. If I had been eating in the restaurant this food would have definitely went back, I ask my husband if he was in the restaurant would he order the burger again and he gave it a hard NO. We were very disappointed because the parking lot is ALWAYS full, I just knew we would love it, our food was $30 dollars as well which would have been fine if I could have ate mine. It’s gonna be a hard NO for us sadly

I really had high hopes for this place. I have heard SO many good things about it. But it’s a pass for me. I ordered the “pot roast” and was highly disappointed. The roast tasted like it came from a box and was very dry. The potatoes had almost a gluey texture and were definitely instant, very off putting but the flavor was good. The green beans had a very strong vinegar taste. The corn bread was as dry as a Popeyes biscuit. The only redeeming factor was dessert. I got the lemon cake and it was absolutely delicious. It was soft and the lemon wasn’t overpowering but you knew it was there. Id go back for that cake but as far as food goes, I wouldn’t recommend

Me & my friend have a list of restaurants that we want to try. Helen’s has been on it because we both have heard good things about the food. Needless to say we both were sadly disappointed.
I ordered the Helen’s Country Classic: which comes with a choice of 1 meat and 3 vegetables served with cornbread or a roll
Meats:
5 oz. Grilled Pork Chop, Pot Roast, 5 oz. Country Fried Steak, Hand Breaded Chicken Tenders, Baked Ham, Grilled Chicken Tenders, 5 oz., Chopped Steak, One Piece Fried Fish, One Piece Grilled Fish, Chuckwagon, 5 oz. Fried Pork Chop
Vegetables:
Pinto Beans, Green Beans, Mashed Potatoes,
Creamed Corn, Fried Squash, Fried Okra, Coleslaw, French Fries
I got the grilled pork chop with the pinto beans & double mashed potatoes. The pork chop was seasoned very well but it was a little heavy on the salt. I got pinto beans which were cooked perfectly. The mashed potatoes were confusing! One bite they tasted like instant potatoes then in the next bite they could’ve maybe been homemade because there were a few lumps. They weren’t bad though. My roll was was hot & fresh & really good.
My friend ordered the Helen’s Classic but with roast beef & gravy, green beans, creamed corn & cornbread. Hers was definitely worse than mine! The roast beef was dry & I personally thought the gravy had a odd taste to it. The green beans had a heavy vinegar taste to it. I didn’t care for it but she did. The cream of corn was entirely too sweet and the cornbread was dry.
Even though their desserts aren’t listed on the menu they have a variety of different ones. We were told they had cheese cake, carrot cake, chocolate pie, lemon cake, pecan pie & banana pudding.
I was going to get the banana pudding. The server told me there’s no bananas in the pudding that it was basically nilla wafer pudding. I got the pecan pie which was actually very good! My friend got the lemon cake. I personally thought it was too dry but she loved it.
The entire time we were eating, multiple servers would stop & ask if we were good. It was to the point it was a little annoying but when we finished eating & was going to order dessert, no one was around.
We definitely won’t be back.

The Helen’s Club sandwich was amazing, definitely recommend. The shrimp was overseasoned and dry, the okra tasted freezer burnt. The Pippin chicken was a mess, dried grilled chicken with bacon crusties and mushrooms that for some reason didn’t quite work. Great service and quaint atmosphere with rushed flavors makes this a “try once” restaurant for us.

Update 2021: Food quality still superb, tasty & portion sizes are HUGE! We had already eaten 4 onion rings and 2 pieces of fish. Support this local business, you won’t be disappointed.

My wife and I love Helen’s catfish. It’s always fresh and good and September 6, 2025 was no exception. I do however have a complaint this visit. The service was awful. Our food was brought out but the service stopped there. They were not even busy. Had to ask for more ketchup and finally got it after 5 minutes. We were never offered drink refills. The staff was unfriendly. Had to get up and go to the cashier. No receipt was ever brought to us. I’m usually a great tipper. Not this time. Great food but extremely substandard service. I am disappointed. There was plenty of help there and maybe a dozen customers. Hey Helens! What’s wrong???
