Spillway Lodge – Hidden Gem with a Nostalgic, Homey Feel

Spillway Lodge is one of those places that truly feels like a hidden gem. I’ve been here a couple of times now, and each visit has had the same warm, welcoming, almost nostalgic vibe. The staff genuinely makes you feel like you’re eating dinner at a family member’s house rather than a restaurant — relaxed, kind, and unpretentious.

When you first pull up, you may honestly think you’re in the wrong place. The property looks more like a working farm, complete with barns, horses, and open pasture. But that’s part of the charm — this is the place. Parking can be limited during busy times, and once inside there may be a wait unless you arrive early, which is something to keep in mind.
The dining area itself is beautiful. On the far side of the room are large windows that open up and overlook the spillway, creating a peaceful, scenic backdrop while you eat. In warmer months, there’s also patio seating, which would be especially lovely given the surroundings.

Each entrée comes with access to the salad bar and one side. The salad bar is fairly basic but gets the job done, and it includes bread and butter. The only small critique there is that the bread would be even better if it were served slightly warmed.

For our meal, we ordered a 12 oz ribeye and a 12 oz New York strip, both requested medium. Unfortunately, both steaks came out more done than medium, leaning much closer to well done. We decided to eat them as-is rather than send them back — it’s harder to fix an overcooked steak, and we didn’t want to see food go to waste — but they definitely required a fair amount of chewing and lacked the pink, juicy center you’d expect from a medium steak.

As the night went on, I noticed many other guests ordering their steaks well done, so it’s possible that medium requests are less common here and may be a bit of a learning curve for the kitchen. That said, at $32–$34 per entrée, you do expect the cooking temperature to be accurate.

That being said, the experience itself is really what makes Spillway Lodge special. The dim, warm lighting, clean space, and distinctly 1990s décor and furniture make it feel like stepping into your grandparents’ dining room for a comforting dinner. It’s nostalgic, inviting, and incredibly cozy. Everything was very clean, well cared for, and thoughtfully maintained.

While the food wasn’t perfect temperature-wise, the atmosphere, service, and overall feeling of the place are what make this restaurant memorable. It’s the kind of spot you go to for comfort, scenery, and that home-cooked, familiar feeling — and for that reason alone, it’s still worth visiting.

If you’re looking for a relaxed dinner with a beautiful view, friendly staff, and a truly unique setting, Spillway Lodge is absolutely worth experiencing — just don’t be afraid to clarify steak temperatures or order slightly under your preferred doneness.

This hidden gem was a treat from start to finish. Beautiful place to visit, and eat. Awesome battered pickle chips with ranch dressing for dipping! Absolutely delicious, and cooked to perfection filet mignon steak. Scrumptious loaded baked potato. Nice salad bar, which is included with your dinner. Nicely stocked, and fresh. And the caramel apple pie with ice cream, chef’s kiss! So good! We will be back! Try this place, you will not regret it!

We had been here a time before and we were blown away with the food, last night we brought some folks with us from out of state, we were a table of 6. We had been bragging how good the food was, and we were excited to show them a gem in our area. We were highly disappointed and a little embarrassed when the food was not up to standard. We had a steak that was brought out raw two times, and an order of ribs that were dry and no one ate. The bbq sauce tasted like ketchup at best. The rest of our food was “ok” but We DID Have the best service, she didn’t lose a beat, she kept apologizing for the food and made us very comfortable. The atmosphere was cozy. We just don’t know if we will be back. Missed the mark for us.

Both of our steaks were tough and fatty and undercooked. Not cooked to our request of med well. Shrimp was good, salad bar was good. Service was excellent! Nice atmosphere. We would probably go back, but definitely not get the steak. Apple pie was yummy. Nice location/setting

Great food and great service. We had an unusual party of 10 and we were seated without any issues on a Friday at 7pm. Thank you staff.
The sunset was amazing btw.

The rib eye was cooked to my request. It was tender with a great taste. The salad bar was adequate. Good food, nothing over the top. Casual dining. Popular spot for locals looking for a good steak. The steak came with salad bar, baked potato and the veggie of the day.

We enjoyed everything about our dinner at Spillway Lodge. The place is old school beautiful in a country/farm setting. Everything we ordered was excellent. Between us we tried the ribs, the ribeye, the salmon, and the grilled shrimp ‐ all were very good. I also enjoyed the throwback salad bar, especially the pickled beets. You’re unlikely to ever just “be in the area,” so this is one you’ll have to put on your list and make a point of getting to!

I absolutely love this restaurant. The food has never disappointed. I love the salad bar option. That has become quite rare! The place can get busy and fill up quite fast.
I recommend the filet mignon.
